Oh yeah?
Yup investing resources into DL every year and trading up for WRs when you already have limited draft picks.
Their success will be short lived at this pace.
I don't agree with this statement, at least in part. ShanaLynchs' drafting strategies arise from their belief in building a team inside out, as opposed to outside in. Lynch, a Hall a Fame Safety, understands that his personal success arose in large part because of the play of individuals like Sapp, Quarles, Simeon Rice, and others. Lynch applied this philosophy to the 49ers. We now have Bosa for 4 years, Armstead for 3 years, Ford for 4 years, and Kinlaw for 5 years. We also replaced about 30 million a year in salary for Buckner/Sanders with rookie contracts over the next two years, which we can put towards extending our players or signing free agents. We obviously missed on Thomas, which led to having to put more resources into the position group. But, the dline was our strength last year and a big reason we made the super bowl. You can't argue with it because so far, it's worked. These picks replace our two biggest needs for this upcoming year, while keeping salary cap to make moves with the number of players that will be free agents after next year - Kittle, Sherm, Tartt, Spoon, Eman, Jus, Thomas, K'Wuan - and Jimmy and Warner after the following year. This I believe is what Shanahan was referring to in his press conference when he spoke about helping with free agency moving forward. They also understand a limited number of draftees will make the team this year.
In regards to WR, I do understand some of your angst. Shanahan seems to miss on a lot of "his players" e.g. Beathard, Williams, and Pettis, who he traded up to take. I am having flashbacks to 2017 unfortunately. My hope is Shanahan learned from his past mistakes, primarily targeting the wrong type of person as opposed to skill level. Pettis and Williams clearly do not have the right mentality to make it in the NFL - I hope Aiyuk does.
