the approach works if they hit enough of the time. i don't think they approach draft value and capital the same as some other teams do. they want to get their guys and will use their draft capital to do it. i believe shanahan when he says brandon aiyuk was their guy, i believe him that they had intel he would be gone at 31, and they did what they had to do to secure him. it's a bad move if you're looking at expected value of draft selections they traded, brandon aiyuk's average position on nfl draft boards and EV of the 25th pick, etc. but i really don't think this is how lynch and shanahan view it. they seem more confident in their evaluation process than most teams and weighed against their evaluation of aiyuk, the price was right. and i guess we'll see if they were right next season.
I'm glad they didn't take a wide out with the 13th. Folks need to get over the Jeudy was there, Lamb was there thing it's done!

Hopefully this is the last time we have to redraft multiple positions to fix early round misses.

That's wishful thinking. Not matter how good of a team you are, you are gonna miss on some picks in the draft. It's a crapshoot!

We've had to do a lot of redrafting too soon IMO

From various sources, it seems clear Miami was going to take him at #26. Once we picked him, Miami traded out of the slot. Daniel Jeremiah ranked him #24 overall, right where he went.

Some very good draft analysts ranked Kinlaw equal with Brown, knees not withstanding. Jeremiah had Brown at 5 and Kinlaw at 8 overall. Charley Casserly loved the Kinlaw pick for Shanahan. There were others as well.

It seems clear Shanahan sees a healthy Richburg, with Brunskill at RG as the answer for now. Maybe something happens in the next couple of days.
I like the Kinlaw pick. Dude seems to be a force. The thing about it is that I didn't see DL as a priority but Lynch and Shanahan disagreed which speaks immensely about Thomas' position. They may in fact have come to the realization that the dude is a bust.

I see that Aiyuk is good with the ball in his hands but is not very tall or fast. I know that there is speed and then there is football speed and that size doesn't particular matter so I'm hoping that this kid turns out to be a really good football player.

Overall really good picks.

The real question is which DL will Lynch take next year and which WR will Kyle move up for. There's your formula for all future mock drafts. LOL

We're taking EDGE next year for sure. Dee Ford's bum ass knee isn't going to last the season

Imagine walking into a total dumpster fire devoid of talent, completely tearing it down and rebuilding it into the deepest, most talented roster in football while maintaining good cap flexibility and winning executive of the year and having your team 7 minutes from winning a SB in your 1st 3 years....and people still s**tting on you

I really like how NCommand put it:

Let's hope Staley returns. Let's hope Brunskill is the answer. Let's hope Richburg heals up from another major injury.

Or take measures so you don't have to always be hoping every year.

maybe they will sign bosa to play with his brother freeing up that number one for a quarterback ala green bay. of course for some reason. they cling to cj so maybe he will indeed end up being the chosen one
Josh Rosen might be available now that Tua and Fitzpatrick are in Miami.

Still think we're the class of the NFC, my only concern is interior oline and cb. If Brunskill is legit he's already better than Person and an upgrade, I'm nervous with Sherman at 31 and speed wrs against him and if Moseley was an anomaly. I want no part of Witherspoon, I'm done with him. He'll fool you with 2-3 good games then give up TDs like people giving out candy to kids on Halloween
We might have a fire sale today.

Sure hope so and still wouldn't mind signing Clay Matthews or Griffen.
