The cutting of Simpson suggests that we might be making a move for a WR. Because I know Trent, the front office and everybody and their mama knows that what we have left is not cutting it in the NFL.

It's also possible it's a respectful move by the front office to give a veteran guy more time to sign somewhere else.

But I hope you're right and it's in anticipation of bringing in another WR with actual NFL skills...

I agree, generally with Veterans, it is a respect move, to cut them early, so they can try to latch on to another team before the season. I see Acker got traded to KC, and we need to cut 4 more guys today. Hopefully Baalke is working the phones, trying to trade guys like B. Miller, M. Martin, and B. Thomas. None of these guys really have a future here, but might have value around the league, even if it is small value.
Glad to finally have Gaskins gone after like 3 tries at a roster and him stealing carries from better RB's. Please get Taylor a ton of carries Thursday to see if he is worthy of a spot. The only surprise is Simpson but we cut him early so he can have a chance at another team.

4 more to go by Tuesday, here are some possibilities: (Keep in mind some guys wont go in the first round of cuts even though they are worse players but we have to field a team for Thursday and need enough players at each position.
Hamm TE, Anderson TE, McBryde DL, Cherry DL, Kelly OL, Price OL, Balducci OL, Faniaka LB

I don't expect any more WR to go as we need to get a good look at those guys like Anderson, Treggs, Burbridge, Cajuste, whalen. I'd say 1 more OL, 1 DL, 1 TE and Faniaka. We could also see a trade so that would be another spot.

Edit: Has anyone been watching 5th round pick Theus and 6th round pick Cooper? Seems unlikely we would cut new picks in those rounds (7th happens but 6 and especially 5th are more rare). Thomas might be against the wall just because those guys are newer picks. Glad Silberman didnt make it... Pears better not over younger better players.

Dang it, trade the guy for a happy meal
Chip may have long term plans for Driskel and won't take the chance of losing him. He defintely looks comfortable in the offense. Work out some deal with Kap or just cut him. He is not the face of the franchise, what's the point in keeping him.
I'm hoping that they like what they see in Beadlkes snapping the ball, so that having him be able to be a back up C/G is do able, thus making M. Martin expendable through trade or cut. I want M. Martin+B. Thomas traded as soon as possible, and B. Miller while we're at it. Find what teams still use a FB, and then offer Miller up in trade, because he's most likely an upgrade to what ever they have right now. Martin and Thomas are still young enough, that other teams would take a flier on them for depth, and hope they can eventually make starters of them down the road.

I doubt Theus and Cooper make it to our PS, so that's why Pears would need to go as well, once Thomas and Martin are traded/cut.

Kelly said he's our #2. Draughn isn't going anywhere. I think Harris is getting cut.

I wouldn't want Harris cut. With our RBs injury history, imo we should keep Hyde, Draughn, Davis and Harris

Have to keep 4

I think since we haven't used Kelvin Taylor much, Harris makes it, and Taylor is put on the PSquad(if clears waivers)
Thinking the same thing

Oh, he will be back at the start of 2017, and be let go again about this time next year
I agree that Kap needs to go, not many teams have cap space to take him on, but perhaps we can rework his deal a little, where we eat a bunch of his guaranteed salary this year, while we trade him, thus his new team only pays him a few million for this year, and then can have the choice whether or not to pick up his future years on his contract.
How would we rework it though? Turn most of his guaranteed salary into a roster bonus set for like tomorrow, thus paying it to him now, and then trading him later with minimal left on his salary for the new team to take on? We'd still take the cap hit for the roster bonus, but the new team would only need what's left of the salary after the roster bonus. Could be a win-win. We finally move on from Kap, don't have to worry about next years salary becoming guaranteed if he gets hurt this year, plus we gain a draft pick or picks for him.

I remember when all the other 31 teams used to wait for our cuts

Do you remember when people used to trade for players we were gonna cut anyway?

Also, the offseason isn't over yet. I would be willing to bet that teams are going to do that again after final cuts.

Then Gabbert throws short to Joe Staley.

Yeah but he'd be open because the defense is busy trying to cover Gordon and Smith.

Baalke has no idea what a good WR looks like. he probably thinks our WRs are fine, and the NFL has become a defense league.
