How anyone can watch the first 8 games of last year and think there's any hope for Kap is beyond me. It was one of the worst displays of QBing I've seen in quite some time.

Just think, if Kap was on that same Jacksonville team instead of being handed a super bowl caliber team he'd probably have just 7 career wins.

We were very patient with Alex when everyone wanted him out, and he became a very solid QB. We owe Kap the same amount of patience and growing pains.

If Kap can win the job he should start if not Blaine should start
If Kap is actually a good QB then it shouldn't be a problem
We will see in a few weeks time
I'm not high on either of them

The guy showed some promise last year. He was thrown into an absolutely atrocious situation in Jacksonville and has the talent to be at minimum a decent QB. He could actually be a good QB.

If you think Kap is a better QB that is fine with me. But I think Gabbert has a place in the NFL. It may not be with this team in the end, but he certainly is not a Brady Quinn type QB. He can play the game.

Just to be frank, judging a QB by wins is incredibly shortsighted. There have been plenty of QBs throughout the years that have revitalized their careers by a change of scenery. Not that Gabbert is a Steve Young, but Young was buried in an atrocious Tampa Bay team and turned out to be an astonishing QB. Favre was a backup in Atlanta. Warner was bagging groceries. Sometimes all it takes is a system that the QB can work with. Gabbert probably isn't on their level, but to dismiss a guy simply because he hasn't "won" is absolutely ridiculous.

I think so many fall in love with the underdog story no matter who the QB is. Many have fallen in love with Gabbert being an Alex Smith, Brett Favre, Steve Young type player where moving to another team revitalizes their career. I mean, I don't see much in Gabbert's game beyond a couple of OK games that exceeded the extremely low expectations set for him. Amazing how some want to hand him the keys when he was merely OK last year....but since the expectations were so low for him, beying anything better than bad caught a lot of people by surprise.

If the thought is that Gabbert can revitalize his career, then why can't Kaep who has at least accomplished far more in the NFL?

Here's what I see.. Kaep has had high expectations, he fell well short of them...Gabert had low expectations and exceeded them. Their play last season was supbar and if they play that way this season they will never start anywhere again.

Lets see what happens this year. The better QB should start. What happened last year should have ZERO bearing on who the starter should be. QB play was poor last year and that goes for both QB's.

I do find it amazing how no one ever talks about Kaep's situation last year beign downright atrocious...terrible coach, oline and injuries.. And ye he's written off... But Gabbert deserves another chance.

You're talking to a guy who is still upset that Alex lost his job to Kaep.

Can't blame him, benching Alex was a big mistake. But I still have faith in Kap

To be completely fair he did have some decent games, Minnesota, Ravens, and Giants come to mind. He has terrific straight line speed and a rocket for an arm though his accuracy is a bit suspect. If he can get around the corner, like he did against the playoffs in Green Bay, then it can be pretty spectacular to watch. The problem has always been and remains, the fact that he can run like a gazelle and throw the ball a country mile aren't necessarily traits that will make him a good NFL QB, they make him a good athlete. A lot of people who post in this forum clearly don't know or care to differentiate between those two things, which is why these threads always deteriorate into some variation of, he said, they said.

I think the thing that was interesting about last year was that while Kaepernick's play clearly contributed to his losses it really didn't seem like it was that much of factor in their wins. The Minnesota game is probably the best example, that was Hyde's game, Kaepernick did his job and didn't beat himself. That was the formula that worked under Harbaugh the first couple of years and I think goes back to the concept of the TEAM that he liked to preach and I think that is what has been lost since Kaeprenick's ascension to the starting role. The offense became all about how well HE was playing rather than how well THE TEAM WAS PLAYING. That's another distinction that his many apologists don't seem to quite grasp. Colin Kaepernick is a superior athlete who plays QB. That doesn't make him a superior QB.

I honestly don't have any idea of what to expect from Gabbert this year. I have no idea of whether or not he will even start, I suspect that will all get sorted out in pre-season. I will say that I thought his play last year was encouraging. It seems like in his few wins he always made at least one play that made a difference in the game's outcome. That terrific scramble up the middle against Atlanta that he almost scored on. The long run against Chicago to send it into overtime and that deep ball to Smith to win it. I have no doubt that some idiot will say, oh but he shouldn't have won the Chicago game or the Ram's game because they missed field goals. You're right they did, not sure how that is Gabbert's fault. He got another chance at it and he got it done. Still counts as a win whether people want to argue over it or not. I think he still has to answer the questions left over about his game from his stint in Jacksonville but right now I think the arrow is pointing up and I hope he does well.
