Better than nothing, but I think the solution is more practice time with the coaches that are developing the scheme (Staley can't contact coaches either so he has had the same limited work schedule). These guys need to be meeting with coaches in the off season and they also need to be in pads banging during training camp.

Well...that's against the rules so...

On a good note, all teams play under the same rules!

OL this year is going to be very solid with potential of being very good, completely retooled from last year...

Cooper also started all last year for a decent Dallas squad.

If by "proven" you mean lived up to their high draft status, then clearly no. But if you mean they aren't proven starters in this league, you're incorrect.
they have shown me little in a niner uniform or in any other uniform to make me think we will be just fine. i need more than god lynch coming out and saying they are sexy

They aren't proven starters. Tomlinson can't move and was the main reason JG got hit over and over again.

Cooper was cut by the Browns and was inconsistent in Dallas. Cooper hasn't been the same since his injury. How good is he really if our 1 year offer is all he could muster up?

Our OL did upgrade with a more stout Richburg and a more reliable McGlinchey, but we really don't know how good the guards will be.

Remember the Seahawk's got in trouble for having practices that were to rough and competitive with too much contact.

Drafted by SF, has played T, G, and C. Good competition. He can try to win Beadles spot as utility guy
Not a good signing. Definitely not a guy we ever want to see on the field trying to protect Jimmy. Really wouldn't want him on the field trying to protect the 3rd string QB either.

I don't know, Shanahan's scheme is different. It will be interesting to see why he was brought in and how he will be used.

We also have to factor in that you need a certain amount of bodies at each position in training camp not only for competition but also to make things run smoothly while not burning out your core guys.

I doubt he makes the team.

With starter Ryan Kelly battling multiple injuries throughout the 2017 season, several players were called upon to step up at center. But veteran Mike Person ultimately added stabilization at the position. Person now heads into the offseason set to become a free agent once again.

INDIANAPOLIS — For a good chunk of the 2017 season, the center position turned into a rotating cast of characters for the Indianapolis Colts.
When starter Ryan Kelly went down with a foot injury during training camp, Deyshawn Bond, an undrafted rookie, stepped in and played well — until he suffered a season-ending quad injury on the team's first drive of its Week 4 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Adam Redmond, who spent much of his rookie season in 2016 on the Colts' practice squad, had to fill in for the rest of that game in a loud, primetime environment at CenturyLink Field.
Kelly was able to return to the lineup the following week, but continued to experience some nagging injuries and nicks and bruises over the next seven games before suffering a concussion Week 12 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite returning to the practice field a couple weeks later, Kelly would never receive the clearance needed from an independent league neurologist to get back into game action, and he was placed on IR, officially ending his season, on Dec. 18.
Fortunately for the Colts, a seven-year veteran, Mike Person, was available to sign as a backup option on Oct. 3 after his release by the Kansas City Chiefs one month prior. Person stepped right in when Kelly went down, and, for the most part, it was as if he had been working with the Indy offensive line the entire season.
In fact, in his first start of the season Week 13 against the Jaguars – who featured perhaps the best defensive front of any team in football in 2017 — Person earned a grade of 88 on the day from Pro Football Focus, which placed him on its "Team of the Week" after their analysis determined he had allowed zero quarterback pressures on 41 total passing snaps.
"Making his first start of the season for the Indianapolis Colts at center, Mike Person had a fantastic game," PFF's Sam Monson wrote. "He didn't allow a single pressure against what has been a wrecking ball of pressure in the shape of the Jacksonville defensive front, and he also got the better of them in the run game where he earned a solid grade. The only black mark against him was being flagged for being down field on a pass play, but the screen was delayed so even that negative wasn't Person's fault."
While Person was injured in that game and another first-year center, Anthony Fabiano, started the following week in a blizzard against the Buffalo Bills, Person was able to return to the starting lineup the following week and played solid for the final three games of the season.
With Kelly back for his third year in 2018, the Colts won't be looking for a starter at the center position moving forward, but Person, who enters the offseason an unrestricted free agent to-be, certainly did himself a favor with the way he performed in relief duty in 2017, and could very well be an option to bring back to Indy as a backup once again.

I agree. Lynch commonly talks players up only to replace them. And I agree that all three of our first-round guards have failed to live up to their draft status.

I guess I'm not as pessimistic as you about our personnel, however.

Tomlinson has started 47 of 48 possible games in his three NFL seasons. Norwell he is not, but he's a durable and ostensibly well-liked player.

Garnett is miscast in a ZBS but dropped 20+ lbs already and has a full offseason to adapt his game.

Cooper is probably the most athletic in the group and started on a very decent line in Dallas.

Magnuson or Shelton might surprise, and someone's going to need to backup center. Speaking of center, Weston is gonna make his guards look better than they are. There are only a few centers in the league who can reach block like Shanahan requires. Kilgore wasn't one of them.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I expect our line to to be much improved this year.

I'm sure these teams have figured sneaky ways around those rules.
I thought he was just a T, so he can play any OL position as he played C last year
