We have unproven guys with hope that they show out. The frustration comes when you see them going up against Suh/Donald who are already proven.

of course this is the truth. they are unproven and we did nothing in the draft to address it. glad we got a great center. hope the rookie turns out. hope staley stays healthy. hope the guards pan out..... ok that is alot of hoping and wishing and praying

How would drafting a guard fix the unproven problem at guard?

i would take a rookie as compared to the guys there now who look sexy. and its about trying to get better. to not even make an attempt to address what is a need in the team is a puzzler to me. just as it is to hope eli is our pass rusher to justify cutting elivs

Bam! No answer for that one. I was hoping for a guard prospect on day 2 to make a push for snaps in 2019 - maybe even 2018 if Garnett/Cooper fall on their faces. There were three guards chosen at the top of round 2. I knew then that the 49ers would not select a guard, if they were even considering one at all.

you can not tell me the team could not have found any sort of offensive lineman in the 4th but no. the brick by brick method tells us we needed an acl guy who MAY help next year. our guards have not lived up to their drafting anywhere they have played but yet we hope they will turn it around for us.

You are allo over the place. WHo know if the rookie would be better than the 3 guys we have now. The 3 we have now were 1st round rookies at one time and they haven't been that good, except for Cooper last season.

Mike Person signed. Quality backup center who can play every position. He is an upgrade over Beadles.

Started 14 games at center for Shanahan in ATL in 2015 and 4 games for Indy last year and in his first game vs Jak PFF gave him an 88 rating and he didn't allow a hurry or pressure vs that line.

LT- Joe Staley / Darrell Williams
LG- Laken Tomlinson / Erik Magnusen
C- Weston Richburg / Mike Person
RG- Jonathan Cooper / Josh Garnett
RT- Mike McGlinchey / Garry Gilliam

This line is really shaping up. We have some nice depth now and a good mix of young guys and veteran's.

I was hoping Shanahan and Lynch knew what they were doing! And we won't know for at least a year or two. Some of my concerns were met in the draft, others by UDFA, and still more with free agents. But...won't know for reals until they play actual games. Preseason still won't answer them...just actual wins and losses. But when were you last so excited for the season to begin? Chip Kelly was an odd but interesting hire. It seemed that they would have to really redo the roster or he would fail. Baalke refused to make those changes, perhaps Chip agreed to work with those players without major changes?

I see an transition to speed, character (Foster being an exception), and intelligence. All good as far as I'm concerned.

I tend to agree with that, up to a point. While I don't like the Kentavius pick, the rest of the draft was long term positioning. I like the RT, Wr, and LB picks as well as the later DB picks.

If they thought there wasn't a guard who would help any year is that a better choice because it would have filled a perceived need? If the guy wasn't an upgrade of even a backup player and they drafted an ACL guy who could start in 2019 or be a significant role player in 2019 that's worse?

None of us know how they graded any of those guards. Drafting a guy you think has a 50/50 chance of contributing is better than a 10% chance of them even making the team in a place of "need". That's why you don't draft for need and end up screwed if you do.

I'll tell you what. If our O-line is absolute garbage next year and in 2 years we see 1, 2, or 3 guards taken on the 3rd day of this draft starting and being quality players on other teams, I'll say you were right.

False again. They were 1st round picks for being way above average in college.

in the nfl they have been well below average. i would have been very happy if lynch had the balls and taken a chance on a kid who was good in college to come in and push these guys but no. lets play it safe and hope it works out cuz lynch said they are sexy
