So does anyone know which type of offense we are going to run?

Just look at what went wrong last year....then read up in the forums how the new staff is trying to correct it

thats all i need to hear

In terms of stats, I don't think our passing game will be better but it will be more explosive. Not necessarily more efficient, but definitely very explosive. The only way I can see a deep ball passing game be stastically efficient is if we maximize our RBs in the passing game.
If anything, I think we will be more like the 80's forty niners stats instead of the 90's crazy passing stats. I really hope we are more like the 80's passing game because that was the era of the RB receiving stats during our golden era. We won 2 super owls without Rice. We do not have a Rice on this team, so emulating what we did in the early to mid 80's is our best option. When we got Rice was when Walsh was able to blow the roof off NFL offenses so don't expect the crazy passing stats We put up in the 90's with Rice and then TO.

Walsh was very good at striving for 50/50 valence. I recently did an entire profile of Walsh's offense for his entire career (it's on page 18 of the Bill Walsh thread). In his ten years as our HC he had 5 seasons in which he passed more than run and 5 seasons in which he ran more than passed. All the title team and the 13-2 '87 squad ran more than they passed.

Personally I believe in striving for 50/50 with a WCO approach (ie passing to set up the run). However I'm not sure we are built like that. I think the if we are a run first team, we can achieve a 50/50 balence by taking the check downs to the backs. Personally, I think Reggie bush is gonna look like a steal by years end. He is essentially a WR playing HB.

Bush has me the most excited as he is one of the leagues most versatile back. I just hope Colin dials it down on those circle routes and swing passes.

Look, I'm going to order NFL Ticket and I'll be watching every game, cheering my ass off, same as all of you. We're all in the same boat. I don't see why I'm somehow less of a fan, or a troll, simply because I do not share some of your enthusiasm about the direction of this team. I simply said "I smell disaster" and I was attacked for it.

All of the off-field drama during last year and this past off-season has really soured me on the 49ers organization. Being an SF Giants fan as well, the stark contrast between the organizations is mind blowing. It makes me proud to say I'm an SF Giants fan, not just because of 3 championships in 5 years, but because of how they did it. The 49ers organization is an embarrassment to professional sports, and I just don't see how you guys can see it differently. Do I hope the players and coaches are successful, in spite of this? Absolutely! I just don't think they will be. Hopefully I'm wrong.
So what about all the years before the Giants won a WS lol..your just grabbing air now

you keep bringing up last year..hello...the garbage is gone now

You have no current facts of how it will be a disaster but bringing up stuff

It was frustrating that they didn't win it all, but at no point was I embarrassed to say I was a fan of the team. Maybe you guys don't get out much, but other teams fans, and fans of football in general - are laughing at us. The 49ers are basically a big joke right now.

WHo cares if they laugh about us in july? What matters is what happens in September through February.

Says every Raider fan every July lol

LOL except the raiders have been proven to suck. This niners regime, and talent base hasnt proven that yet. Again you are leaping to conclusions.

Good point. Aren't we all leaping to conclusions though? Mine just happen to be negative. Although I will say, I was at about an 8 on my scale of negativity, now it's more like a 6.5. So you guys talked me off the ledge a bit.

Well if you have a negative opinion thats fine. Its your speaking in absolutes. Im not jumping to conclusions. I believe they will be good, but have always admitted there is a lot to approve, and I do have trepidation about aspects of the team, but I beleive there is also a lot to be excited about. No doubt there is concerns. Im glad you cooled down a bit atleast though.

And wouldn't a "realist" be someone who sees no positive or negatives at this juncture b/c it's still too early to form an opinion one way or another?

What you described is someone who is "clueless".

A realist is someone with a wide perspective and doesn't just close their eyes and cover their ears to anything negative or unrelated to their team.

LMAO! What you described is a pessimist, not a realist. The good thing is that we only have a couple more months until the season starts. By the time the season starts, we should both have more accurate realistic perspectives/expectations...no matter which way the needle slants.

I think it falls into a "win-win" category. If the Niner's fail horribly, you win the forum contest. If the Niner's do well, you're a fan of the team and win as well. Otherwise I can only speculate that having lower expectations will lead to less disappointment?

This is ultimately what it comes down too. For some younger fans, the Harbaugh era was the only era of success they've experienced (where they were old enough to appreciate it). Then 3 straight years of heartache. And then last year. 'Fool me 4 times...shame on me.'

"Not this time...lower those expectations and hope for the best. No way I'm putting myself out there."

Good to see so many did though!
