i could care less about what steve young thinks the perception of the team is. the only thing that matters is what we have seen and heard so far from the players and coaches themselves and yes, the media that covers them on a daily basis. and based upon all those reports, i am sorry to say we are not a mess. just because you wish it, does not mean it is true. you put so much emphasis on what young says. what is your opinion of the good things the players have said up an down across the board on the new coaches and new changes? or are they just kool aid drinkers who do not see your "reality"?

sorry you can see the changes that have been made are for the good, sorry you can not see the good free agents we brought in, after i am sure you and others would soooo convinced no one would want to play for us, sorry you can not see the changes they are already working on in just three days of mini camp, sorry you can not be optimistic for the injured guys we have coming back and the fact there has not been one report of any setbacks to them, sorry you can not be happy for , unlike last year, no dark cloud hanging over this team,,,,,, sorry you can not be reasoned with.

Just because we predict a losing season doesn't mean we're calling the team trash, losing is a part of rebuilding.

The Homer/Koolaid thing is really a tired meme. It assumes that an optimistic outlook is delusional and a negative outlook is realistic. Nobody knows what's going to happen. Evidently some people around here have convinced themselves that they actually do know what's going to happen. I would call THAT delusional.

Nothing can be done about HOW we all got here...but from actual football-related topics since then? You're not encouraged at all? Not even mildly cautiously optimistic?

I mean, you'd have to literally ignore every single 1on1 interview (coaches and players including retired legends), ignore the draft and FA period, ignore every local media report, reports from national media who actually visited the facility (i.e. the Greg Cosell interview), ignore all the OTA improvement reports by MM/MB+, etc. ignore the fact that all the 19 IR's are back to form, the all-ACL team is looking good and adding more talent/depth, Bowman's "All About Business!" campaign and not review our actual roster/depth to not be at least, mildly optimistic for the upcoming season.

That is some seriously selective efforts right there...or you're a Rams/Hawks/Cardinals fan? You say you're not a Harbaugh-fan? Ummm

Only reason I said that is because I'm getting attacked for not having blind optimism. Just giving my opinion that I don't like what has gone on this off-season, and that what has been stated about our offensive system/philosophy/etc is essentially "just run the football." Being basic in the NFL does not equate to Super Bowl wins.

Does anyone really believe that the owner and GM WANT the team to do badly? Doesn't that kinda go against the whole idea of a competition based sport? I remember when we first hired Harbaugh, some of the writers said he probably would only be here a few years. He's like a candle. Can only burn brightly for so long. Well, they were correct. We don't know what happened behind closed doors. And it doesn't matter anymore anyway. The only thing now that matters is who IS here, and who is coaching. It's Tomsulas team to coach. Not Baalke. Of course I'm optimistic. I've been a fan since the late 70's, early 80's. I watched EVERY game during our decade(ish) of decay. EVERY season I was ready for a Super Bowl run. This year is different to me. Management has taken full control of the ship and that has never worked in the NFL, or any sport that I can think of.

Players and coaches speaking positively is par for the course. Undoubtedly every other NFL team's staff and players are saying the same thing. You are correct that we can't do anything about how we got here, but I reserve the right to look at this situation with doubt.
