Finding a Delanie Walker Type Player | Page 4

I do think we need to find a player similar to Delanie Walker. Dalanie was no superstar in the stat sheet but he was one of the key pieces in the niners attack. He was a big, fast, physical player that could man handle a d-back and get a body on a linebacker. He could also make a play in the pass game when needed and allow Vernon to concentrate on receiving rather than blocking. Imagine a line-up with Boldin, Vernon, "Dalanie-Like" and a big guy with speed to get down the field. With this formation we can spread out the O and still pound the rock with this big physical core. We can also work the play-action to counteract having the box stacked. Might be time to move on from Vance and go get Dalanie's replacement that has been missing the last few years.

Bring in Larry Donnell . Great hands and size. Completely wasted talent on the giants. Guy is a 3rd down clutch machine.

Not a lot of people liked Walker in the ZONE… there were only a handful of us. I really thought it was a mistake to let him go.

Dude, the 49ers may already have a Walker on roster. But, you have to realize who was coaching last year.

To be fair, considering how our offense was when we had Delanie with said coaches, it's only logical to assume had we had someone to fulfill that role last year he would've been used. I think McDonald was supposed to be that guy but he's not, Millard may be but speed may keep him from being that guy as well.

Very true. However, Walker was "developed" before this Offensive crew arrived. I don't see a whole lot of offensive players (in skilled positions) that were developed under this staff. You could say Keap was "developed" but it's becoming more apparent that the prior staff may have done more to retard his progress than accelerate.

That is definitely a possibility. I think Walker averaged 15ypc which is crazy from that position! The match up nightmare a two TE set he and VD created was unprecedented. Not sure I've ever seen a team with both TEs being able to run sub 4.5 40s. You are showing a power run look which forces the defense to bring the safety down in the box but then both TE can run deep seem routes. You try and counter with an extra DB and they just run the ball on you! Gotta love it!

If the 49ers drafted Vance McDonald to be Delanie 2.0 then that is a Balke mistake. They are 2 different types of players. Delanie has much more speed but Vance has the Size and blocking ability. 49ers shoulda just kept Delanie and taken money from another player to pay Delanie. Maybe Titans will cut him for cap reasons then he can resign with 49ers.

I live in Houston and I've seen a couple of Rice games in person. And I can understand drafting McDonald. The guy had some unique skills and was a nightmare for the defenses he faced.

But, he wasn't facing the teams Stanford had to play which may have altered perceptions.

I'm stil not giving up on vance, he has proven to be a real good run blocker. Also at rice, wasn't he more of a slot type H-back? If memory serves, I don't thibk rice runs a pro scheme, so I still think vance can develop into a pass catcher. Hell VD had terrible hands early on and develop into a very good target.

My sentiments where more of a perfect offensive fit for both Ertz and fleener at the time.

He was basically DW at Rice. My only issues with McDonald are that he gets hurt and drops passes. However, the offense the 49ers ran didn't allow him (or anyone else) to work on their passing game. And when the 49ers tried to go to a passing game, the novice nature of the playcall and play design held the team back.

We have two of 'em...Carrier and Trey Millard. Before he got hurt, Carrier was making some nice plays. Millard's a similar player...good hands, kind of an H-back guy.
