Defensive ranking of teams where Mangini was DC or HC (Yds/Pts):

2005: 26/17
2006: 20/6
2007: 18/19
2008: 16/18
2009: 31/21
2010: 22/13

He makes his teams better. He went to Ny and CLE with bad teams. Made the defense better

LOL context changes everything.

Yes because good coaching has never made bad teams good. Its all about who is on the roster....

He did make those bad defenses better over his time with those teams. He left them in a better position than when he got there.

Eh hard to make that statement when he had 3 and 2 years at NY & Cleveland. Its more he has ran mediocre defenses. Maybe he will change here but nothing has shown it yet.

He didn't even have the players his 1st year with the Jets to run a 3-4, so they ran mostly a 4-3 until he got some 3-4 players and made the switch his 2nd year there.

Biggest drawback of Tomsula is lack of coordinator/HC experience.

Look at the hires/interviews.

Sparano: Ex-HC
Mangini: Ex-HC
Fewell: Ex-DC
Tarver: Ex-DC

Even the ASSISTANT O-Line coach was a HC in college.

All of these guys were well enough regarded as coaches to obtain a higher level coaching job and are returning to their roots.

Too many Chiefs not enough Indians?

It is not uncommon for someone to get promoted to a higher level and flame out because they either were not ready or just not well suited for that level. Many of those guys come back to the level at which they functioned best and stay there. Some guys like the street. Some like the board room.

And what did he do from 06-10? In 2010 with Stanford: PA/G: 17.4 (10th of 120).

It's also worth noting that when he wrote this Belichick and Mangini were feuding, now Lombardi is on the Patriots staff. If he gets another media gig I wonder what he'll say about the niners! LOL!

Mangini has a 33-47 career record as head coach, but his defensive bonafides have never been questioned. He should be a good defensive boss for Jim Tomsula. .

How do you figure that? It showed he could coach a good defense. Show me what Mangini showed since he was fired in Cleveland to let me know he could coach a good D? He was fired by the 49ers and didnt seem to have any other offers.

Then there's firing harbaugh, and obviously downgraded the coaching staff. And asks us as fans to hold him accountable. But as most of the fans that go to games now are not real fans so not buying a tticket won't help. Punching him in the mouth and telling him why after would

Every fan feels there owner is the worse. As far as the stadium goes, the players seems to love it better at the new place. You say new fans suck, how do you know how many are new fans? Even if they are new fans, how can you really say they are not real fans. I have been a fan since the late 60's but live in Hawaii, so if I were able to afford a ticket after moving there, I am not a real fan? Stupid Almost everybody else thinks the stadium is better, most of those complaining are the ones that don't like change or didn't want it moved outside SF from what I have been reading.

Not the Patriots, Seahawks, or Packers fans, to name a few. And not 49ers fans, when Eddie owned the team. The Yorks have been a downgrade plain and simple. And we are in the midst of a major coaching downgrade, no matter how anyone tries to sugarcoat it.

John York was a train wreck. Jed has done a nice job so far. He got a new stadium built when SF politicians became impossible. He brought in Harbaugh and Baalke and things looked very good.

Harbaugh, as predicted by many, became more trouble than he was worth and was shown the door. In the meantime, Harbaugh proved to be a jester when it came to the offense. Roman took most of the blame, unfairly I would argue, when Harbaugh was the one calling the shots.

You can call this a major downgrade but I would submit that is just your opinion. Others differ.

Bingo.

Everyone forgets that Fangio was out of the league. He was hired by Harbaugh to be the DC...AT STANFORD.

The only reason he was back in the NFL was that he followed Harbaugh back.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not slamming Vic. I wanted the guy to stay...but lets stop pretending that Vic has been a genius everywhere he's been.
