Is that a sign of things to come with our defensive players?

TE coaches teach to run routes, read coverages, read and run, run and passing blocking schemes. They don't call plays.
Im actually fine with Mangini at DC. There weren't a ton of great options out there, and Mangini has never really been doubted when it came to defense. Our D could probably coordinate itself anyways.

So we're going with the "Fish that Saved Pittsburgh" strategy. Instead of all Pisces, we're going all Italian.

...and Mangini had nothing to do with Vernon first getting rolled up on from behind to jack up his ankle or getting crunched and screwing up his back.

Blaming Mangini for Vernon last year is insane...the guy wasn't healthy after week 2.

This is pretty much the opposite of the way every other team in the NFL is structured. I won't say it can't work, but the prospects are not good.

You take a good look at BAL and get back to me. Look at PIT while you are at it as well

I disagree. I think with the amount of coaches they are hiring who have held the top positions in the league thy are hoping that the coaches will bounce around ideas and games plans so they are all in sync on sundays and putting a strong structure around a first time HC. Just my 2 cents

Eric Branch @Eric_Branch
I dummy (Wright is a WR, Eric!): Let's try again -- #49ers TEs in '14: 39 catches, 433 yards, 2 TD. #Bills TE Scott Chandler: 47-497-3.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was a nagging injury or his head wasn't in the game (or both).I don't think Mangini had anything to do with Vernon's s**t season though. When the dude is running every play at 75%, and dropping half the passes throw to him, that's not the position coach's fault.

Mangini is not a te specialist anyway. That was just a position created for him I think. I don't like Belichik tree guys, but I wouldn't hold our TE's poor performance against Mangini as a DC.
Emergency plan in action.

Oh Well, The deed is done. I can only hope JT can keep a lid on this guy. Because from what I've read on Mangini is that he can really drive players into the dirt, deflate confidence, and kill player morale. I don't like this hire, but I honestly think that Mangini was about the best we could have expected. The process that Jed and Trent has employed has so poisoned the well of the better prospects of coaches that none wanted to coach for this FO. I don't think had much choices left. IMHO

I think that is what is going on but we ain't Al Davis and the Raiders all of a sudden. We are being modeled in the molding of BAL
