This. Fangio's defense was simpler, so players could go out, react and attack but it had a tendency to fall short when they couldn't just win on pure talent. Mangini's system will likely be more aggressive, but will be more schematically complex, more restrictions assigned to guys, not nearly as much pure "read and react" type approach.

They lost Ty Law, Teddy, Rodney Harrison, and the other starting LB between those years.

Teddy was on that team during the 2005 season.
Not to mention he still had Seymour and a couple great CBs

He played 9 games after coming back from a stroke. Ty Law was one of the best in the NFL back then. You don't replace guys like that in 1 season though

This. Anyways, like it or not, Mangini is the guy now so hopefully he does a damn good job.

I hate bottom lines. Because Fangio had an injury riddled defense and still coached a top 5 defense. Where's your excuse for Mangini?

Don't have an excuse, and don't need one. The past is the past. Fangio himself had very poor defensive rankings prior to joining the 49ers. So we can't completely close the book on a guy because of his past, even if I am skeptical of Mangini.

We have a talented defense, and Mangini is experienced. He's got a very good shot at coordinating a quality defense. If not, then fire his ass.

Question: What if non of these guys can get along with each other?

I'm not saying that JT will be a bomb, but there's a reason a coach likes to bring in his own guys. If the GM has to stock the locker room and wants to hire the coaches for the coach too, don't you foresee trouble in the future?

People can co-exist and get the job done despite getting along. Ultimately you want them to get along but that isnt always the case as we all know as grown men in our everyday lives. Hopefully they can see the bigger picture. Yes it could be bad if they dont get along but that happens everywhere. Just have to hope for the best

That would be the mature thing, the adult thing to do, right? So should've Baalke and Jed taken that approach with JH & Co.? After all, wasn't there a "bigger picture" to be seen then? Don't get me wrong, what's done is done. No sense in about it now. But I have no faith that Baalke and Jed will ever be adult and mature enough to see the "big picture" of things vis-a-vis their juvenile, inflated pride and arrogance, in particular in the face of success. Because if this don't work I for one won't be blaming Tomsula. But I will run the risk of getting banned from the Zone not sparing any words in the English language telling the world about the stupidity of how grown men allowed their stupid pride and stupid arrogance get in the way of a winning situation, how that stupid pride and arrogance came before winning and football decisions.
