Cox or Cully?

nice

Cully, and Cox. I love Cox.
Cox was so great for us last year.
This will be the only time these words come out of my mouth, but I'd rather have Cox.
Cully. CBs with size and have as good cover skills as him are hard to find.

Week 1 - Week 17 2014

Perrish Cox: Thrown At 96 times, Receptions Allowed 59, Yards Allowed 830, Longest Reception 63 yards, Passes Defensed 18, Interceptions 5, Missed Tackles 4, NFL QB Rating 78.0

Chris Culliver: Thrown At 73 times, Receptions Allowed 37, Yards Allowed 468, Longest Reception 45 yards, Passes Defensed 15, Interceptions 4, Missed Tackles 4, NFL QB Rating 66.5

Since Bye Week (Week 9 vs Rams - Week 17 vs Cardinals)

Perrish Cox: Thrown At 55 times, Receptions Allowed 38, Yards Allowed 525, Longest Reception 63 yards, Passes Defensed 6, Interceptions 2, Missed Tackles 4, NFL QB Rating 96.4

Chris Culliver: Thrown At 40 Times, Receptions Allowed 18, Yards Allowed 207, Longest Reception 25 yards, Passes Defensed 12, Interceptions 4, Missed Tackles 2, NFL QB Rating 46.6

I agree with thl408 that on tape Culliver looks like the better press/tight man coverage defender and Cox like the better pattern match/zone defender.

I am very surprised by these numbers. It didn't look this way at all on tv. Maybe Cox tailed off towards the end for some reason. Maybe culliver played a lot against lindley.

Let's not forget dude looks clueless when someone makes a catch on him. Dude has been burnt more times than toast, I don't give a s**t what PFF says, I actually watch 9er games not put together numbers like a frickin calculator.

apparently you don't if you decided to type this.
once he was healthy he was rock solid. his side of the field was great.

Yah apparently I don't, since I've only been a mod of this site since the internets was invented.

I just come here for s**ts and giggles (mostly for giggles) and just talk about MMA and the UFC yah that's right.

Yah Culliver was rock solid alright....dumb as a rock solid. (humor relax)

In all honesty, his side of the field was and always has been inconsistent, he mostly gets beat on hitch routes or come backs. Cox is much better at man-coverage than he is.

Disagree completely. Culliver has always been a 2nd half player, you may get him in the 1st but the 2nd half he picks it up. this season he grew from being that to a full game player. his side was solid way more than it wasn't when he was out there.

So you admit it then, Culliver is inconsistent.
Cully, but damn man . . . you can use some tackling techniques dude.
Cox is better at playing the ball and the economics make him the better player as well. Culliver has never been a good deep ball player and cox showed the flexibility to jump into the slot.

WAS. when he was a rookie he was part of the 2nd half brigade that played horrible in the 1st half and dominant in the 2nd half of the playoff run.
last year he missed the entire season so he never got to build on it.
this year he picked up where he left off as a rookie and then built upon that. and went from his 1st half self to a full game player.

Cox only played 59 of his 965 snaps in the slot this season (8 Targets 5 Receptions, NFL QB Rating 75.5 -> best on the team).

D. Johnson was J.Ward´s replacement for the majority of the time.

But overall still played inconsistently. But maybe it's because of such high expectations for Culliver and we didn't think Cox would produce the way he did this year. Overall I still say Cox was the better all around player in all the CB's.

still disagree. he missed a year of development with the acl injury came back from it and got through the season and improved each week which is what he would've done last season given the opportunity. it hasn't even clicked completely yet but another off season of actually working and not just studying tape might have him prime to have a real breakout season.
I want Cox. We have Johnson to be our big, physical guy. I will never forgive Cully for all the mistakes he made in the SB, and I've never found him to be a great cover guy anyways.
