We aren't going to continually be +28 in the turnover column
While I would like to see more from the offense they were handicapped enough last year by injuries and circumstances to give Smith a pass for his part. I don't hate K Williams but his errors were incredible in the NYG playoff game. I saw a couple of plays I had forgotten last week, aside from the obvious fumbles. He must have had six or seven really game changing plays...all in one game! Glad to hear he is working like a maniac this off season to turn his image around. Also glad to hear that Willis sat with him and gave him a pep talk.

Willis is like player of the century. Great person, good man, humble, and the best at what he does. He has to go down in history as the best EVER... 52 better be retired

How about Goodwin. Not sure if Kilgore or Looney can call protections yet. It all starts in the trenches.

funny how comments like this are made, and yet when he seperated his shoulder vs seattle in 2007, the talk from fans and coaches was to rush him back..i think the talk would be the same if he were hurt in 2012

Because he did so well in TB? Not that I don't like the guy but you are assuming, from no data--against what we saw last year from Smith, that Johnson can play at more or less the same level. This is a sad commentary on fandom, in that people think this is plug and play. I've never played Madden, or seen it played for that matter, but many think this attitude is a result of this hobby. Could that be a little true?

Just my opinion, but the drop off from Justin Smith(arguably the best defensive player in the league last year) to RJF(solid backup, depth guy) is much greater than the dropoff between Alex Smith to CK.
We're a team that wins by playing great D and ST while limiting turnovers on offense.
Which is one reason why It seems Kaep wouldn't be an upgrade, and might just be a big problem. Dude's slow windup and propensity to try to gun it into tight spots plus the fact that he has zero NFL experience has turnovers written all over it.
With the way the team plays defense and tries to control field position it even 5-10 more turnovers would cost the team a bunch of wins.
All that is assuming that Kaep can actually play, and isn't a bust of some kind. Nobody knows if that is the case because he didn't play last season. When he did play, it was obvious (pre-season) that he had a long way to go.
Agree! People tend to under rate the lack of mistakes by Smith. JTO ring a bell?
His INT numbers were his ONLY impressive stat. Everything else was completely meh. I would trade more INTs for higher offensive output. Rodgers threw 1 more INT BUT 3x as many TDs and about 1600 more yards. Not saying he needs to do that (he's obviously way too limited to reach that), but in today's game 3k yards and 17 TDS ain't gonna cut it
You have to start over somewhere, Why not at INTs?

You would like to think that, but do you honestly think that Tukuafu, Dobbs, RJF, or even Soap would be as good as Smith was against the Saints? That was a game for the ages and proof positive that Smith is one of the most dominating defensive players in the NFL today.

There are a few.
Lee
Akers
Justin is so crucial. He helped Aldon get sacks, the secondary by constant pressure and the other Dplayers by being double teamed so often.
Alex - that would really hurt in te short run. AND would depend on how fast the reserves could fill the gap.

Yes the smith boys are double tough

either one of the starting safeties.......? Goldson and Whitner aren't really "superstars", but that is one spot where the team doesn't have much quality depth.
Justin Smith would be hard to replace. His mere presence on the field can alter a pass happy team's play calling.
