I wanted Quinn, but was happy with Aldon.

I actually wanted either one of them over any other players at our pick.

I wasn't very familiar with him but checked MD's ratings and he had Aldon pretty much next in line has best OLB available.

Back in April, The draft 'guru' Rob Rang shared his insights on the possible development of Robert QUinn and Aldon Smith. I guess i overlooked this because its already winter time and I'm just now reading these quotes. Anyways, I thought I'd share this with any others who may also find this interesting...Rob rang said the following after the 2011 draft ended.

"I would have taken Gabbert and potentially Robert Quinn over Aldon Smith at seven," Rang said. Quinn went to St. Louis at No. 14. "To have Chris Long on one side as your base end and then have Robert Quinn's explosiveness on the other side, I mean, he reminds me a little bit of Leonard Little, but bigger," Rang said.

"You watch, Robert Quinn is going to be a better player for the Rams at 14 than Aldon Smith will be for the 49ers at seven."

I wonder if Rang is starting to feel like an idiot now.

you knw Aldon is a beast hes tackling Vick and doing the worm at the same time

OK...this has been driving me nuts. I've seen about 3 different articles about Smith using that above picture.

Thats NOT Aldon Smith. Its Navorro Bowman.

lol, I knew it !!!

I don't remember Aldon chasing down Vick

Arms too short

If that was Aldon it would have been a facemask.
No doubt that Quinn is the real deal. I've watched him several times and he has a burst combined with power. Aldon Smith has a ceiling that we can only guess at. If I was gambling on futures, Aldon would be my pick.
I thought it would come down to Quinn and Amukamara. I had no idea who Aldon was but glad the front office did their job. But as far as Gabbert goes, F**k him. The most over rated QB to come out in freaking years. I didn't understand why soo many people were licking his balls before the draft. . I remember I was watching the draft and I was praying....Who ever it is....it better not be Fracking Gabbert. I didn't care who they drafted as long as it wasn't Gabbert

Aldon is playing well for us and that's all that should matter. Hopefully he continues to improve. I liked Robert Quinn a lot so it sucked to see him go to St Louis. Quinn does have like 6 sacks so it's not like he's a terrible player for the Rams.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but Aldon is going to have double digit sacks this year, probably somewhere between 13 - 15. With that kind of production I think it is safe to say that Aldon should be very good for long time. The kids athletic skills are off the charts (did you see what he did to the Rams tackle? Goldberg I think) and he has a solid work ethic. I highly doubt that he will dissapear after this year.

Time will tell but Smith, to this point, is looking like a solid pick.

EDIT: He apparently feels that the Nines will go to the NFCCG and lose to the Packers (based upon the way he has the last four spots seeded out):

The thing that bugs me is that he calls Crab a player who has been relatively disappoiting. Ok, maybe that's true to an extent, but Crab is turning it on of late and really begining to develop. I'm not sure you can say that anymore. However I do agree that we need another receiver. I don't know if Sanu is the guy, but I want to build a receiving corps like the Pack, where we are 4 deep with starting caliber receivers.

It's funny I haven't seen him around here too much. I guess he still feels Gabbert is the best QB in the draft and Aldon is an over valued project....

I agree. If Crabtree finishes the season like he's been playing the last few weeks, then I feel pretty comfortable saying we've got one of the WR spots set. I'd like to see a big-bodied deep threat on the other side, someone who can threaten with their speed plus go up and get a few jump balls.

I think that both Aldon and Quinn are going to be good players, but there's no way that I can say that we picked the wrong guy. Aldon is making an huge impact, even in limited time. I think that he'll get even better as time goes on, but even if he doesn't, it's hard to argue the value of the pick for the production that we're getting.

I'm also really glad that we didn't take Gabbert. I was just not sold on that guy. If Harbaugh had signed off on him, then okay, but I think we're seeing a little of why we didn't take him right now. Oh, and if no one on the Jags has nicknamed Gabbert "Sunshine", then they are missing the boat. Ronnie Bass FTW!

Flat out lie, and certainly worth a warning. I graded Smith as the second best OLB in the draft after Von Miller, higher than Quinn, Kerrigan and anyone else. You may send a PM to On the Clock or any one of the other guys on the draft board. They knew my board. I will take your apology afterwards.
