Rob Rang shared his 'wisdom' on the future of Aldon smith and Robert Quinn

The thing is, how many have actually seen every player play and not just once, but in different siuations? I would not doubt that they rely on others judgement also. I myself only know what I see what the boob tube offers. A lot of these guys probably do more than just write up talent assessment on college players. Not an easy job. Even the full timers get it wrong. Plus sometimes its where a player goes that can make full use of kids talents etc.

You clearly don't get it. If an analyst gets it wrong for another team, no biggie. If for the Niners, it is the equivalent of slaughering of baby seal pups. We call them out, attempt to discredit them. Some fans are incredible thin skinned. Imagine if CK busts, and Rang gave the pick a high grade. Nobody would make a peep.

You mean like the fans who post their opinion, consider it the word of god, berate all who disagree while insinuating they had a incestuous relationship with the GM, and then act like they knew all the personnel moves were good the whole time and try to backtrack their arguments to save face?

sorry but I don't believe there are any 'real' analysts.......seems like most of them analyze games they don't even watch. Observing highlights does not an analyst make. IMO.

I agree. I should have put analysts as quote unquote or specified as those that get paid for it.

I'm expecting a HUGE game for Aldon Smith vs. the Cardinals.

Kolb holds on to the ball longer than Skelton, which will set up "Sackretariat" for the kind of monster day he needs to get back in DROY conversations!!

Anyone think 3.0 sacks is enough for Aldon to get back in the running? I think so!

I understand that Watt is doing well for Houston, but I disagree that he would've been a better pick for the Niners. Even if Watt does end up becoming a better player than Aldon, here's 2 reasons why I and several others believe Smith makes more sense for the Niner's situation: playing time and team need.

Playing Time
1. Justin Smith is arguably the best 3-4 DE in the league and is an every down player. He still has more good years left in him so a replacement isn't necessary at this time.
2. Ray McDonald was signed to a long term deal and is getting paid "starter" money. Like Smith, he is an every down player and can play both the run & pass effectively. He's a long term starter who is now entering his prime and doesn't need to be replaced any time soon.
3. Since both players are every down players, it would be hard for Watt to get on the field. Even if he was good enough to start at DE over McDonald, we would have an expensive backup who wouldn't see the field much.

Team Need
1. The team needed a pure OUTSIDE pass rusher. Justin Smith & McDonald have done well providing inside pressure, but the defense lacked heat off the edge. Brooks & Haralson have been solid but not dominant at getting to the QB. Yes, Aldon Smith has been a one trick pony so far...but the one trick he excels at happens to be exactly what the team needs.
2. Ahmad Brooks is in the final year of his contract. If he doesn't re-sign with the team, that leaves us with ONE OLB going into next season and we would have an even greater need at that position.

MadDog, I'm not trying to convince you to change your opinion. It isn't even about being right or wrong. I just want to understand why you feel Watt makes more sense for our team and our particular situation.

Not many really liked his selection of Aldon Smith or his selecting Chis Culliver as a safety.

And even fewer, liked the idea of moving Bruce Miller to fullback.
