No. What I regret is that our team doesn't know how to use and develop talent.

Anyone still regret drafting Vernon?

Vernon is statistically one of the best tight ends in the league.
He's developed into our #1 receiver. It SHOULD be Crabtree, but it's more Vernon Davis and Gore right now.
He's touted as among the best run-blocking tight ends in the league.
You say that we can get the same production out of other guys. True. I think Delanie Walker is on par when it comes to pass-catching. Billy Bajema and a lot of the other run-blocking TEs we've had are probably similar.
But the blend that he has is great for us. When teams look at our team, the match-up problem they worry about is Vernon Davis. To be honest, even after last season, we STILL haven't even begun to tap his potential.

Glad I'm not a GM. I wanted Huff and a TE in the third or fourth round.

I still don't see where his speed and strength translate to the football field. I really use to love the whole 5 guys to bring him down myth. To see him go down by 1 guy nearly every time. Without nary a broken tackle.
Still bitter about being wrong. Awesome.

well we did take Walker that year right?? Even as a backup, Delanie Walker is one of the most dynamic playmaking tight ends with his blend of hands and speed. Davis is the total package though with his blocking ability too, and can get down the field quicker than any other tight end in the league

I still do. Especially since I wanted Marcedes Lewis instead. Logic being that #7 is just too high for any TE. I wanted a TE, and I thought Vernon would be better, but I just thought you get basically the same services from a guy like Marcedes with our late 1st round pick.
With the 1.7 pick I wanted AJ Hawk, glad he was not there, because my 2nd choice was Ngata.
I hope this is a lesson learned for this franchise, top 10 is too high for a TE. Now I am not even sure that Vernon is even better than Marcedes(who has become quite a good blocker also)
No offense man, but all the bad picks we have had over the years and your debating one of the few good ones? We can debate the woulda, coulda, shoulda's all night but Vernon is a great player and his freak abilities make him a far more dangerous threat than M. Lewis ever could be. Get Vernon a solid quarterback, and this conversation becomes moot.
