Considering when the pick was made, I'm just happy it worked out for us and wasn't a bust. That he's one of our best players is pure gravy.

Yep. Now compare their different salaries based on where they were drafted. And factor in Manny Lawson vs. Haloti Ngata.
And I don't have to stop with Marcedes....there is a ton of very good TE's that you don't have to make such a high initial investment on....of course the poster boy for that concept being Gates....but I am not going to go that far.
My point is, in that very same draft we could have had a Vernon Davis lite....AND swapped Manny for Ngata

Also VD's stats would be a lot better if he had better QBs and OCs.
