Anyone still regret drafting Vernon?

OMG, someone's questioning VD's value just weeks after his colossal extension?

EVERYONE agrees that he's a potential mismatch before each snap. The kid has potential that all HOF TE's could only dream of. My question is what's between his ears and in his heart.

But, there is no reason why posters can't ask legitimate questions about draft choices, player production, injuries (or no injuries), coaching, ownership, etc. Simply put, any player that agrees to a max contract, along with his fans, should expect to be under the microscope when things aren't going very well.

VD had 1 catch for 12 yds and will collect nearly half a million in game pay for the Denver game. Just sayin

Considering I wanted Micheal Huff at #7 (Thank You Al Davis).

Excellent points! VD is capable of so much it defies logic at times. Just isolating him on a 5'10" 180lb cb cracks me up! Can't snap the ball fast enough!

But, I think he's hurt more than than we know. Which begs the question: Is he hiding it or is the team? And if so, why? If I were VD I would be frustrated to no end. Yet, certain players have to assume a team leadership role, not knowing how many players Sing may have lost over the past 4-5 weeks?

If VD is as banged up as I think he is, we should not trot him out (or let him decide) for a few plays and a single catch vs. the Broncos? Either put him on IR or take his helmet and let him watch & heal from the sideline. Get him healthy.

5 remaining conf games isn't looking like the opportunity I thought it was 2-3 weeks ago. The Rams & Hawks have exceeded all expectations, and the Cards seem to be backing themselves into a corner (not good for opponents). All of these scenarios will require outstanding game plans and on field execution.

Anybody regret drafting Rashaun Woods 31st overall in 2004?

idk, Darnell Docket was still available in the 3rd round, and Jarod Allen wasn't taken till the 5th.

i follow the nfl since 2008 so i don't know anything about the respective draft and nothing about the general draft habits at all...i, for one, don't care about any habits...if u have a shot on a receiving TE who is damn fast and can block decently, go get him.

wow! 7 pages? crazy.

players have good years. it happens. brandon lloyd is killing it (and killed us), but i highly doubt anyone is saying we should have never cut him.

when all is said and done, davis will have the better career.

Yep. Now compare their different salaries based on where they were drafted. And factor in Manny Lawson vs. Haloti Ngata.

And I don't have to stop with Marcedes....there is a ton of very good TE's that you don't have to make such a high initial investment on....of course the poster boy for that concept being Gates....but I am not going to go that far.

My point is, in that very same draft we could have had a Vernon Davis lite....AND swapped Manny for Ngata

By all means...please show us the stats for his blocking ability and leadership. Oh, and the fact that he never comes out, regardless of situation. Unless, that is, you're one of those..."bah we could find a great blocking TE in the 7th round rabble rabble rabble" guys. Oh, and don't forget to throw in the fact that every single team we go up against has to spend a considerable amount of their week preparing just for one guy. And that he creates one of the biggest mismatches in the NFL, week in week out. And they have to dedicate a safety to him on just about every play, which creates better chances for our WRs. And that his presence alone stops teams from throwing 8-men guys in the box on most downs just to stop Gore.

But you're probably right. Marcedes Lewis and a low-round blocking TE sounds like a much better option. The receiving yards, TDs and receptions tell the entire story.

no way... i love VD.. he is a leader and he is one heck of a TE..he can catch run and block..

If you break down Vernon traits, he is off the charts on some, but in others he has a way to go. It's mostly the mental traits that hold him back. Too often he lines up in the wrong place, jumps before the snap and lacks awarness downfield. Compare him to Brent Jones and you realize that Jones had great awareness and always found a hole when the QB needed a hot receiver. Vernon has a way to go to become a complete TE. He is part of the reason why Alex is called Captain Checkdown to some - he's not looking when Alex needs him.
