I'll probably get reamed for posting this, but if I had to compare his running style to anyone... well, at least anyone famous... I'd compare him to Earl Campbell. They are both big backs with with deceptive speed burst. They both run a little upright and out of control at times, but still had pretty good body lean for big backs. They both have good balance for running so wild. They both had wicked stiff arms. They both truck the f**k out of defenders. They were around the same weight, Dixon is a few inches taller.
I'm not saying Dixon is as good as Campbell, ok? I'm not at all. Just that they look kinda similar running the ball to me.
I know the Dixon vids are against scrubs in preseason. I'm just talking about the way he runs the ball.
Ok, bring on the criticism. ::hides::

I hope dixon gets at least 50% of the carries. Guarantee he'll make some plays.

This from what I've seen so far. He's a shifty big back which was what Bettis was.

I dunno... I think Bettis was more of a short strider that ran with a lot more control. His leg drive is legendary, man. He was also a lot more stiff that Dixon is. He was a thick ass SOB.
I think Bettis had more natural power than Campbell and Dixon. Dude didn't even really have to try to truck guys. I think that's why he could run with such control.
I do get the shifty big back thing, though. I just think he was shifty in a different way. It was less of a cutting motion with him (body lean) and more of a quick step that made him deceptive.
Does that make any sense?

It makes sense. Now that I think about it, Bettis was as big in the core as he was up top which allowed him to run with power even though he wasn't.
From the highlights, I can see the Campbell comparison but Campbell had a smoother stride.
On a side note, if Campbell was playing today, he would fumble at least 3 times a game. Did you see how he holds the ball?

Yeah, Bettis was just a beast. People just bounced off him... so fun to watch.
Yeah, I think Dixon is more out of control as a runner. I think he's just really amped up to show his stuff and his adrenaline is getting the better of him. Watching him in college, he ran with a lot more control. Also ran more upright, though.
Yeah, I noticed the exact same thing about Campbell moving the ball around. I was a little shocked by it. Hehe... such a no-no now a days. Think he could have gotten the ball any farther away from his body? Sure seemed to be trying.

EDIT: I started every paragraph with, "Yeah". Lulz.

Man, it's been so long since I've watched that dude run I had to go look up highlights. I think he was faster, more controlled, and more compact than Dixon.
Watching the highlights I didn't remember him being that fast.

I also find it funny that... dangit, forgot the analysts name... mentioned that Means had the power of Earl Campbell. Lulz.

WTF? I didn't read the first post in the thread. I'm so full of lulz right now I gots no words.

I think it was Tommy Jackson said that. Wow, I forgot how impressive a runner means was. Huge, powerful, nifty feet, quick and fast! Unbelievable combo for a big guy.

That O-line was setting him up with amazing running lanes. Means best asset was his vision, but he only had one big season.

I think you're right. Means played under more control and was a bit compact. I think if dixon just hit the whole i think he would have the power of means. Dixon, however, i think has wheels to run. I don't know how fast means ran. But i think Dixon can be in the Means talk as a RB. Means was pretty much a poor man's Campbell.

Barlow is a great example of how much this game is in your head. From beast to bust in 3 seasons.
