Oh man Joe say it ain't so. So proud of everything you brought to this team. It Just seems like yesterday we drafted you. Thanks so much for staying with us through thick and thin. Good luck with life after football. You will never be forgotten by Niner fans.

His retirement makes the longest tenured 49er player.... Jimmie Ward!

No we accept it as heartbreaking as it is. The man sacrificed his body for this team for years, it would be selfish to ask him to sacrifice a little more. Respect his decision, it's what he is deeming best for himself and his family.

I'll miss Joe.

I just wish we could have won a superbowl while he was here

Wow! What news to wake up to. With health concerns I obviously understand his decision. One of my favorite guys and I still remember the day we traded up with New England to draft him. Will miss Joe big time

You are right. I am only thinking of myself. And being selfish.
Maybe we chip in for a Swedish sauna and daily whirlpool and massage service. Let's do that. That will bring him back

Thank you for all the great memories Joe! You'll be greatly missed and I hate that this team couldn't send you off as a champion. You deserved to go out with at least 1 ring after so many years of excellence both on and off the field.

Joe Staley has been one of my favorite 49ers for a long time- have a signed jersey that I will display proudly. But my greatest hope is that he stays in shape- and when we drive to win the next superbowl- we bring him back for the playoff run! Add Gore to that and we can finally give the 2019 and 2012 49ers the send off they deserve!

I hope they find a way to keep him around the organization. He still seems to love football and gets along well with people in the locker room.
