some comps are won the prior year
Sam and TL that's the comp folks, let's not get it twisted cuz you guys have a favorite
now I will say if BP isn't ready week 1 and someone else plays well, that always opens the door, but if BP is back healthy ahead of week 1, the job is his
Saying anyone earned it after 170 passes is dumb. He's not gonna be given some long leash…if he doesn't maintain his current play then he will go to the butt bench all the same. They invested nothing into him.
I just think you're really overestimating how much the "investment" matters to a team that is already Super Bowl ready. They don't have to maximize every pick. If Trey is the guy, awesome. But they're not going to sit Purdy after a bad game or two to give Trey a shot just because it took so many picks to acquire Trey. Trey will have to be showing in practice that he's at least close to Purdy's level for them to make that switch.
I would agree with Furlow here. Investment simply does not matter right now. You get em on the field in summer and see how they are capable of helping this team win games, that's all that matters.
I see another NFLer bullish on Darnold this time Orlovsky:
"Sam Darnold is absolutely capable of taking this team back to the NFC Championship Game," Orlovsky said Monday during "Get Up" on ESPN. "I'm so excited to watch him if he's the guy in San Francisco with Brock Purdy a little bit banged up. Finally at a place that has the coaching, the offensive talent, the complete team to allow his talent -- one of the best talents that we've seen come out of college in years.
"I'm so excited, and I think he could be the guy that brings them back to the NFC Championship Game."
