Sam and TL that's the comp folks, let's not get it twisted cuz you guys have a favorite
now I will say if BP isn't ready week 1 and someone else plays well, that always opens the door, but if BP is back healthy ahead of week 1, the job is his

Saying anyone earned it after 170 passes is dumb. He's not gonna be given some long leash…if he doesn't maintain his current play then he will go to the butt bench all the same. They invested nothing into him.

I just think you're really overestimating how much the "investment" matters to a team that is already Super Bowl ready. They don't have to maximize every pick. If Trey is the guy, awesome. But they're not going to sit Purdy after a bad game or two to give Trey a shot just because it took so many picks to acquire Trey. Trey will have to be showing in practice that he's at least close to Purdy's level for them to make that switch.

I would agree with Furlow here. Investment simply does not matter right now. You get em on the field in summer and see how they are capable of helping this team win games, that's all that matters.

I see another NFLer bullish on Darnold this time Orlovsky:

"Sam Darnold is absolutely capable of taking this team back to the NFC Championship Game," Orlovsky said Monday during "Get Up" on ESPN. "I'm so excited to watch him if he's the guy in San Francisco with Brock Purdy a little bit banged up. Finally at a place that has the coaching, the offensive talent, the complete team to allow his talent -- one of the best talents that we've seen come out of college in years.

"I'm so excited, and I think he could be the guy that brings them back to the NFC Championship Game."

They have nothing attached to Brock. Kyle said himself he thought he was Mullens. They're not gonna sit around and play through his lumps all the same. That's my point. Kyle isn't developing QBs. He has zero patience for it….if you can't give more than 100 random passing attempts to a kid you were so "convicted" in to make the biggest trade in franchise history. They ain't gonna give Brock unlimited freedom either.

kyle is like Gruden when it comes to QBs.

Is anyone else gagging reading this stuff about Darnold, a career putz who is already in vet backup redemption mode?

I wouldn't mind the flagrant blue-sky treatment -- just that it seems pretty insulting to Purdy. Who actually did something to be optimistic about.

Is this an off season media strategy of some kind? What am I missing?

I will say this and its JUST my opinion... The guy that has the best camp weather it be Darnold or Lance should win the job it shouldn't be GIVEN to anybody and if one of those guys take off.... Lets see where it goes if they're winning with Lance Great if they're winning with Darnold GREAT let them play then there's NO Rush to get Purdy in there...Remember this Darnold Never played for a good team especially with the weapons the 49ers posses yet he finished of with the Panthers going 4-2 for a Not that great of a franchise...NOW he can show what he really has with the weapons the 49ers possess.

NY, I don't view it as 100 attempts.. I view it as 3 years now. This is year 3 of Trey being in the bldg. So they know a lot more about who he is as a man, a leader, a QB than they knew watching his over year old film, 2019 film for the 2021 draft..

Injury took away his 2022, and that's not his fault, he was still around the team getting all the mental reps, fast forward to now, he's gotta beat out Sam Darnold.. as fans I want the 49ers to win that comp, meaning both QBs TL and Sam play out of their minds this summer. That would elevate our squad to SB favorites if you tell me we are getting high end QB play this season. And if BP comes back, even better.

I agree with the first part…the second part about Sam I disagree with partially. What he stinks at has nothing to do with the roster or coaching. It's playing the position. I'm sure it will help being here. He's not gonna turn into John Elway because he's on the 49ers though.

He doesn't have to be Elway, he just has to make plays, KS has said, QB here is simple stuff, he just needs someone healthy and able. You should be into Sam, he's a top 3 pick and the arm talent is there, he can make all the throws. I think he can do some of the ad lib, elude rush and off schedule throws like BP, has the more prototype arm talent and stuff NFL scouts drool over like TL, so he's like a cross between those 2 guys imo.

Lol well first off it's been two years. There was no competition year 1 and he broken his finger on his throwing hand. It turned out to be a bigger issue than we all thought. Yr 2 he gets hurt after 4QRs and two drives….so stop with the nonsense. The issue is lack of playing and injuries. It's not like he's been starting the past two seasons, like Sam did.

End of the day it's 100 passing attempts. You can makeup whatever you want. You had no problem calling him an MVP after 70 passing attempts, which was a you problem. You have the patience of 18 month daughter. Half our fan base does. Now you're trying to makeup magical stories about Sam lol.

It's about the passing attempts in real live action. I had the same view of Jimmy. He was a four year vet with 2(?) starts when he came to the 49ers. I viewed him as a QB with 2 starts, not a four year vet.

I agree with you 100%. Its a head scratcher and why I was telling you a few months back there is something with Kyle that's just a tad off etc. I'm not saying he's bad, but I think you understand what I mean. Others say he's seen enough practice and around the facility... I say really? the kids was off his feet for like 5 months and just got back out there lol So much BS flying around and we just want to see what this dude does with his QB's. My fear is he bungles this qb situation. I hope he gets it right.

I don't understand the Darnold praise or the Lance hate. I do like Darnold as the 3 reworking his game, but I don't expect miracles.

Lol simple stuff.

all Sam had to do is make simple plays for 5 yrs. I'm not into players that have sucked for 5 years regardless of where they were drafted. I'm talking bottom of the barrel starter in just about every category. Benched multiple times on different teams.

AAll this excruciating PR for darnold is exactly what he doesn't need. If he comes in Camp humble and determined to work hard there's a good chance he'll help us out as QB 2 3 or fill in. If he gets his head all swollen and chest puffed out about all the wonderful things he could do he's going to try and over play every down and the turnovers going to skyrocket. Have no idea what we're trying to do here
