What intrigues me about Darnold is that he does have a very good skill set - he went #3 for a reason. He's also show glimpses of really good play, although he's had some pretty bad play intertwined. When you look at the context of his situations, he hasn't played for a good organization/HC/Team, so it makes me wonder if he can gain some consistency in his good play with our organization. I don't blame all his poor play in those, he's responsible for it, but those things do play a factor.
With this roster, coaching (Griese has been a pleasant surprise), and system - it's not far fetched to believe he can give Lance an honest run for his money.
i think Lance will get more opportunities to seize QB2 than Darnold in camp but Darnold has a real chance. Darnold is surprisingly mobile, just as good of an arm as Lance, and I think has a much more natural throwing motion.
it'll be fun to watch.
He's got some DIRTY to his game
I notice he can move and bit and throw on the move
Maybe he's a cross between Brock and Trey
So why haven't things worked out for him to this point?
I'll let Kyle field this question:
"Sam has as good of a skill set as there is," Shanahan told reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix this week. "That's why he went as the third pick in the draft. When you study his play, you can see it, too.
I don't think he's always been in the best situations, which is tough for quarterbacks. It's tough for all players.
"Sam has played and done some good things in this league.
He hasn't won a ton of games. He's been put in some situations where you're going to keep both teams in the game because you have to keep slinging the ball to give yourself a chance to win, so you don't always have the best stats. But you see the ability, and he's always had that ability since his first year in college when we started watching him. And there's no reason he can't do it."
