I've never been a fan of Sam Darnold, but I've been pleasantly surprised by his performance here so far. I'm not shocked he was named QB2. He outplayed Trey during the preseason, and Kyle clearly likes him.

Take trey completely out of the conversation.

Sam Darnold is our number 2 quarterback.

let that sink in. Anyone who has paid even the slightest attention to football outside of the Bay Area knows who Sam darnold is!! With the way we go through QB's, Brock WILL get hurt. And Sam darnold
will be our starter!!!! WOW!!!
Doesnt exactly scream Super Bowl here we come!

This is from a PFT article, but the stats are deceptive. Lance should be sitting at 1 TD / 4 INTs after two games. He has had three defenders drop picks right in their hands and, of course, the absurd ricochet TD to Dwelley. And Darnold's pick? It was a beautiful ball that literally bounced off his own receiver's face mask. The stats suggest this has been an even competition, but Darnold thus far has looked superior to Lance. I will be surprised if he is not the QB2. I halfway suspect Shanahan thinks Darnold is the best QB on his roster, though Purdy definitely seems to have the uncoachable "it" factor. Our QB room is improved this year. Super Bowl.

So for Darnold/Lance, we use "almost INTs" but not for Purdy last season?

The reality is both Darnold and Lance have been similar. One with 55 games of experience. The other with 3.5 games.

I think if Purdy throws a bunch of picks this year he won't necessarily be safe either. He did get away with a lot last year. But he also sees the field better and reacts way faster than Lance, so ironically he had the improvisation ability we all were told we were getting, but didn't get, with Lance.

Most of the really good teams wouldn't make it to the Superbowl if they had to play their backup.
