If this had been ANY OTHER QB after 3 years in the same system, we'd be calling him a bust. But since SO MANY here have been on his jock hype train, you are making so many excuses for his failures. He got lucky he didn't have to compete for the job last year because he would have been riding pine like he will this season unless we can trade him to some poor sap with QB injuries.

This is the truth, by year 2-3, with Alex Smith, fans were all over him, calling any contextualizing or explanation "Alexcuses", and saying he was a bust. And he was on a team that was perhaps the worst in the NFL in terms of talent, and coaching, until Harbaugh came along and Smith excelled.
Lance is woefully underprepared to be a NFL QB, next to no experience in college, and without even elite raw talent, he has a strong arm and that's it.

Mediocre game, oline was pretty bad also. On to the next. See how he bounces back after that performance.

I'm still sittin and wondering WHAT HE EVER DO TO DESERVE TO BE IN THE 1ST ROUND...
the best thing to do now is WISH HIM LUCK..

So it's clear that the game hasn't completely slowed down for Lance yet. In the beginning he looked indecisive, slow and not comfortable. As the game progressed, he looked much better.
My opinion hasn't changed after today. He needs reps. The more time he gets, the more comfortable and confident he will get. I have no idea how good he will be or if he will ever reach his potential. But seeing plays like that 3rd down dart over the middle to Conley is why I still have some hope he could become a good QB.

How are you gonna get the daughter married off when she has a tooth growing out her nose? Dang. Now have to get her braces.

He just needs to be more decisive with his throws. I think hes just thinking too much and afraid of making mistakes. Ironically, I think Alex Smith had the same issue.

I just expected him to be further along. Ok if he doesn't light the world on fire but I'm not even confident he can make easy/gimme throws....because he hasn't.
Hoping next game is better

The rest was very shaky at best. He looks panicked even when protection held up long enough. He didnt look comfortable going off his first read. He looks clunky or awkward. He looks slow on the roll outs.
By manny accounts he looked better in TC with regards to comfort. It did not show today. Hopefully it does soon.
He looked like a rookie.
He always looks clunky, awkward and confused.
This is actually a good way to describe him

Seems like with how he plays his ceiling is average QB at best. High speed processing is just not there.
No, you missed the memo. Trey Lance's upside is unlimited. I've read it here many times, so just hang in there.

He looked lost n confused
I thought he would come out decisive and confident
Now we see why Kyle ran him so often the previous 2 seasons.

It's one game, but if he looks like this in the next ones too? The calls to trade him will rightly grow louder and louder.
I hope he turns it around but I'm not very confident now seeing him myself.
He still looks years away from being serviceable. Sam, while a lot better, did have more time to throw.

might as well hang onto him at this point, his trade value is terrible

I seen so many on here attack others and even question their fanhood whenever someone thought Trey wasn't the second coming. Hopefully those days are over. I understand preseason is mostly unwatchable football, but he has shown nothing in the last 3 years that trading all those picks were justified.

Who is going to trade for him if he looks like he did today? Honestly, the 4th stringer probably looked the best, and Darnold was clearly better than Lance. If they can't recoup any value in a trade maybe they should consider just dumping him for future cap savings. He makes a pretty decent chunk of change just by virtue of his draft position and we're going to be cap strapped. I thought I read if you have cap savings you can pull it forward. I don't think Lance is going to pan out.
