You call it Trey Young hair. I call it Michael Jordan hair. He's shaving it bald and going to be a baller.

I rewatched the game. Trey had 9 designed runs(ie not option plays or scrambles).
That's a f**king ton for a QB regardless of rookie or not. I was very surprised by this. I thought Kyle would dial up maybe 1, 2 or even 3, but 9?!!
Wow... was it that many? How did you count the goal line stand play where he got stuffed at the 1ft line? I consider this to be an option because there was clearly a pass option to the RB but he decided to try and run it in.

I don't get it. Why be a fan of a football team if your allegiance depends on the specific player playing for that team?
The people all about Trey out there trying to dig at Jimmy any chance they get...even when he doesn't play.
Now the Jimmy people are acting like Lance was out there s**tting himself and doing nothing good, which absurd.
I feel like I've been about as unbiased as you can get in the QB discussions but to me with where this team is right now I think this needs to be Trey's team moving forward. I love Jimmy, I wish him nothing but the best as long as he's not playing against us or a team we need to win against his team...but Trey gives the opposing defense more to worry about.
Honestly right now my bigger issue is with Shanahan. Now I'm not where some people are where they're pretty much calling for him to be replaced which is beyond stupid but I think Kyle needs to take the training wheels off Lance and let the chips fall where they lie. Yeah Trey needs to work on his accuracy, he needs to work on keeping his mechanics more in check (the pick was just a terrible throw) but there is a lot to work with there. Let the kid grow and the team grow with him (our receivers need to get used to his passes and his scrambling)
Now if Jimmy was out there playing like he did against New Orleans in 2019 then yeah...get him back out there if he's healthy after the bye and hope the defense continues to play well. Jimmy hasn't been that guy though. He hasn't played poorly but opposing defenses know him by now. They know what they have to defend to take him out of his game. IMO right now the only thing making Lance predictable is Kyle. I trust Kyle and his play design but he needs to trust his players more than he has been based on his playcalling lately.
The biggest thing I wish we could have back from Trey's game yesterday is the 4th down run at the goal line. I know he was trying to be safe but IMO he needs to get that into the endzone. Had he put the ball out in front of him I think he gets it in there and the defenders wouldn't get there quick enough to punch the ball out. When he hit the corner I thought it was a sure TD. But good thing about that is...big lesson learned for Trey. You get to understand the speed of the NFL and what you need to do to get that ball over the line. Not to mention it's 4th down...even if it is a fumble not like you're missing a chance to kick the ball.
Either way I'm excited for Trey's future. He definitely needs to work on things but IMO this isn't too big for him. I hope Kyle makes the right call here moving forward.

I've said it all season, the biggest thing we need is for Aiyuk to step the crap up. 3 times in that game, pressure situation, needing a play and seeing single-man coverage Murray went to Hopkins who beat his man. We did that once with Aiyuk and it was as tight of coverage as you can get.
We saw Russ go to D.K. in these situations, Rodgers go to Adams, Mahomes goes to Kelce or Hill, whoever isn't doubled, Dak goes to Cooper, Stafford goes to Kupp, Brady goes to a trio of guys. We need a true X receiver. Aiyuk was a 1st round draft pick and hasn't looked anything like one this season.
No matter who our qb is, if teams can double the middle which is where Deebo and Kittle are best, we need someone to win on the outside. We've all seen Deebo gets zero separation on outside. Aiyuk HAS to be this.
In 2019, our offense transformed into something much more once we got Emannuel Sanders. Remember how any times Jimmy would go to Emann vs man-cov? Neither qb has that and the offense just looks......bleh....

Trey lance kept us in this game, and he's the reason we lost the game.
Bad goal line execution, the pic, and generally his improv style took the edge off our rhythm and confused offensive personnel as much as defensive personnel.
Nothing new here. It's been stated for a while. Jimmy gives us a better chance of winning.
I also agree with everyone that Trey gave us a lot to like from a 21 year old with 300 snaps to his credit in 1-aa ball.
I just think the original trajectory for him is about right, and this will turn into an oooh aah woulda coulda shoulda season if he's our starter this year.
My main fear if he starts this season is kyle's homocidal game plan which turned trey into our #1 back.
I was frankly shocked.
Rhythm? LOL what? there was no rhythm...how many penalties did they get yesterday? Rhythm goes out the window when it's 1 & 15/20 or 2nd in long and damn day.
The "advantage" of Jimmy giving them the best chance to win, doesn't outweigh the development needed for this kid to be good in the long-term...this is NOT a SB roster, hate to break it to everyone...Jimmy is NOT a pro-bowl caliber QB that makes everyone around him better. SF going on to win like 8 games because he's the starter doesn't do s**t for this team this yr or in 2022.
We all know Jimmy will start when he's healthy and it's gonna mean just about nothing...he's a lame duck QB that won't be on this team next yr. It's almost pointless to play him AND If he get's seriously injured they're on the hook for an extra $7.5M in 2022.

Looking at the box score, Lance's first start was one to forget. He completed 51.7% of his passes for 192 yards and an interception, but there was more to Lance's debut. He completed three big-time throws for a big-time throw rate of 10.3% and had just one turnover-worthy play (the interception). The former NDSU Bison showed off his dual-threat ability as well, leading the Niners in rushing. Lance tallied 89 yards on the ground on 17 carries, including five scrambles and 60 yards after contact.

Like Eric Davis also said, that's fine but you need to have a similar backup with the same kind of skill set.
I can't believe he didn't end up with a big concussion on that 4th and goal. IF he had gotten a concussion then you're right back to where you were last week...bringing in a QB with a different skill set, trying to run a game plan NOT designed for him.
