Los Angeles Chargers QB Trey Lance Thread

Treys first start was better than ALL the rookie qbs first start by a decent amount. With little to no pass protection and no mostert or Kittle that is very very impressive. Time to give credit where credit is due.

This is true. Trey also looked better and more cool than Young, Garcia, and Smiths first starts. Kaps was probably better because we had a great gameplan and our D was incredible.

The expectations are out of check for Lance and he did well despite having a horrible right side of the O line and some odd playcalling by Shanahan.

Yeah, he didn't get much help. With receivers dropping passes and the OL constantly getting flagged for holding.

Awful. That's the post. Slow through reads, immediately run. Ya works now, won't for long. Lamar is far more dynamic then Trey and defenses have started stopping that crap.

lol you don't even know what you're looking at.

Lol I don't know why it's so hard for fans to distinguish between called Qb run plays and scrambles

I'm not talking about thd designed runs. Trey has great upside and a tremendous ceiling, but he's ultra raw and it's going to take lots of time IMO to meet that potential. It's not like we had a choice to play him or not given the usual Jimmy injuries. But yes I do believe Trey would benefit from a year or so watching, studying, learning, ect.

True but Kap had a season and a half to learn and practice, Lance had basically nothing.

I concur. I've never seen more 1st or 2nd and 20 situations in my life and the fact that he did pretty well despite all of that is very impressive

Lance proved today why he should sit for the next 2 years

The OL didn't help him today - he was constantly having to tuck the ball and run.

Same Oline Jimmy had but he still did better with that then Trey

Jimmy would have been sacked 10 times if he had played today.

I disagree. I believe Jimmy would have been sacked today yes, however he would have also hit the check down most the time also resulting in positive yards.

As I stated before, I was exaggerating on the 10 sacks. Still, Jimmy would have gone down a couple of times, even with that quick release.

I'm quite pleased with Treys first outing. He's everything that was anticipated pre-draft. I need to rewatch the game I recorded but he had a couple of lasers into impossible places. I try to stay focused on those two throws over the others. The run for 14 yards was awesome. He seemed calm. Not a bundle of nerves. I could watch him all day long.

I think we have the guy and hopefully most feel the same. I hope they play him here on out. The kid just needs to play and learn. This OL is underperforming. Mike I'm not sure what to think at this point. They need Joe to come back as line coach and bet be does next year. He seems to have the itch.

Kyle, I'm really trying to see things thru his eyes. He's getting shredded today but he's been handcuffed by Jimmy these years. I do think today he was aggressive but really trying to get a feel on Trey. Maybe the five tries on 4 was a bit too much but I really did like the aggressive nature. It felt good. At least to me.

Somebody needs to be accountable for these injuries. It's gone from it's just football to a bank on it every year occurrence.

I loved watching Trey today. He's exciting and will grow.
I just hope he doesn't develop bad habits starting so early on when he wasn't expected to. Maybe it will work out in our favor. When he's throwing on the run it's something special. He doesn't look nearly as comfortable throwing from the pocket. The windup definitely needs some work. You can't last long in the NFL telegraphing passes like that.

I'm impressed so far though. He's been thrown in there with no pass protection and no run game and has shown great resilience.

Not much time in the pocket today to be so comfy, he does everything we expected good-great, while he needs work on the things we also expected, no surprise. But again if he had help we would've won this game. He did his part by far.
Also if jimmy was in there he would've been sacked and fumbled multiple times I think
I think a couple of those holding penalties were really on Trey. If the lineman didn't hold, Trey would have been licked. He needs to be more patient in the pocket and stop escaping as soon as he sees his first read isn't open. He is young and inexperienced. There were definitely some positives that can be taken from this game as well. He definitely has a lot of upside but he also has a lot of learning to do.
Sanu and deebo dropping those passes were huge

Trey would have had a couple more completions and first downs.
