This is a pretty quick watch. Trey was obviously stiff when he first came in, as he should be, but you can clearly see him settle in and start gunning it. There may be some he could take a little off if, but for the most part that howitzer is going to put the ball in a position where either his receiver gets it or nobody does.

Interesting rewatching this without the emotions of game day. Yes he started out rough but by the end he looked pretty good. He works the pocket really well. Yes mechanics are inconsistent but he hasn't had any first team reps in practice. This makes me go back to what I said before the season, which was he needs to start. He gives us WAY more with his legs and we don't have a good enough OL to give Jimmy the time he needs to get chunk plays. Let's see what the rook can do.

Trey reminds me a lot of Kaepernick. A good runner but not special and throws the short and medium stuff with less touch and accuracy than you'd like.

The comparisons to Kaepernick are so lazy. Trey has so much more nuance and feel for the QB position. Kaep was just an athlete running around making plays, totally unsustainable. Trey's footwork and throwing mechanics, despite needing a lot of improvement, are far better than Kaep's ever were.

Obviously he has to learn touch... but as an armchair fan the only thing I see is that he tends to drop down right before the throw. It seems like its so that he can set his feet, but it also gives away his tell and lets a DB know a split second faster where he is going with the ball. At the NFL level that split second can make all the difference.

Out side of that he just needs to work on touch. Never played QB, just defense, but as a pitcher one of the biggest things throwing hard is that missing that release by just a fraction of a second is much less forgiving than throwing other pitches. Right now I chalk that up to rookie jitters which is to be expected with someone with a cannon.

I will have to be convinced by actual play on the field that accuracy and touch are something that can be learned and easily cleaned up by mechanics with Lance. Some guys in basketball just suck at shooting free throws, and others make it look easy. Some guys throw with touch and accuracy, some guys don't. I am praying that Lance is more like the Josh Allen example cited as someone who improved in this area. It seems that many more who have struggled with accuracy always did so. This is my number 1 concern with Lance. He may be able to overcome this shortcoming if he develops a feel for pressure and learns to selectively run smart like Mahomes or Wilson. Then he'll have guys so wide open it won't matter if he's a precision passer. But I am skeptical that he'll ever be a 1-2-3, bang, right on the money, or feathering passes over defenders like Wilson. Lance has a howitzer and doesn't seem to have full control of it yet.

Careful, that analogy has been forbidden by the thought police.

Its not forbidden by anyone. Its just an idiotic comparison.
I see why there are kap comparisons. He's fast, light skinned, rocket arm. But his mechanics, while still a work in progress, has a lot more potential than kap. Kaps mechanics looked like all fast ball all the time.

I still see a rookie josh allen. Accuracy issues from mechanics but flashes some great running ability in the mean time.
It looked like he adjusted his ball placement in the last drive. He tried to rifle it high to Deebo on one play which hit him in the hands but it gave Adams the opportunity to break up the pass. Next play Trey makes the same throw to Deebo, but this time he throws it low so only Deebo can get it, resulting in a completion. He later throws a similar completion to Sanu.

He needs to keep playing, kid looks like he corrects his errors quickly.

It's weird to me that all the ppl who said - Lance is way too raw and not ready to play this season (and even maybe next season) are the same ppl who are quick to judge him on 1 half of football - where he was not supposed to come in and play. Not only that - they're judging his performance with a bias lens also - bc he was actually pretty decent for the situation he was in - and better than all the 1st round QBs in their first half this season.

lol

Ppl with agendas have agendas.

ikr Fields had like 16 yards passing in his first start. 50 yards of total offense. Then the next week he was good again. Let Trey have a week to prepare for his gameplan

some of us are wondering what type of coaching he is getting to make himself better.

Couldn't agree more. And the comparisons aren't just lazy, they're laughable and aren't worth the time of day.

No, it was just covered. Ad nauseam. A few hundred pages back.

imagine if Trey was white...wouldn't hear a peep about it. Probably compare him to a young Josh Allen.....not a "special" runner (even though he got clocked at 21.54 MPH which would have been the fastest QB last yr and 12th fastest play in 2020). Go look at Josh Allen's short/medium throws in college/rookie yr...dude was trying to throw it through people.

BUT you know it has nothing to do with the color of their skin at all. Man people are lazy.

Its very weird. He came in and played like alot of rookies do but it certainly wasnt bad. Plus the team got down and Seattle knew we were passing. I think he did fine and will improve next week.

We dont have to bring looks into it outside of having a strong armed mobile QB who hasnt gotten touch down yet. Outside of that there is minimal comparison. In one half of a game Lance has gone through as many reads as Kap for an entire season. Lance keeps going for big plays and once he learns to take the easy stuff his completion percentage will benefit allot. Whether he gets more accurate or not... just being able to hit checkdowns will make him much better. There were at least 5 plays where he ran and came up short... but before he ran it, it seemed like he was looking directly at Juice or Kittle in the flat who could of made the first down.

I think the issue is the fact that we don't have an experienced backup behind Jimmy this year and are riding that role with a rookie. You expect the backup to know the game plan and to have prepared like the starter over the week so they can come in and not skip a beat. Add to this the reality that our Starting QB is injury prone we should all expecting a little more from the backup. The solution IMO is to have 3 QB's on the roster so we always have a veteran back there that can execute the actual game plan in an emergency while we prepare Trey for the future.

Josh Allen is the comparison he SHOULD be getting and yes, WOULD if he were white. Probably even draw some Young compares. It's weird how the laziest people make me so much more tired…
