I liked Matthews coming out and wouldn't have minded the niners picking him up and giving him a try. Not sure I'd question Belichick on this...he seems to think he was worth a contract. BB likes receivers who can find the open spot.
Edit: Just read an article about the NFL receivers with the worst hands--good to see Ted Ginn at #2! A Boldin and Torrey Smith both made the list. Jordan Matthews did not. Just wondering...

According to a league source, the #Patriots have released WR Jordan Matthews. He had suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's practice.

The #Patriots placed WR Jordan Matthews (hamstring) on Injured Reserve, ending his season. Because he's on just a one-year deal, if Matthews can return before the season ends, they'll do an injury settlement and he can sign elsewhere
