Great run blocker, bad pass blocker. Call it what it is.
They should be factoring into their decision that behind him we really have nothing quality at guard. Brunskill has proven he cannot protect our qb inside consistently. We have no clue if banks will be good yet.
This is what happens when you refuse to address a position for 5 years, having to sign players because you have nothing capable behind them.
According to ProFootballFocus.com, his pass blocking grade is 69.2 which is the top end of average. His run blocking is 75.3, which is above average. Overall he was the #13 ranked guard in the league. His pay rate is also #13.
If LT took a salary to match his play it would be easy to keep him
The problem is teams overpay in FA and he will get more than #13 overall pay
Dont pay for average play. Draft and develop
Pay for top talent or a need you cant fix immediately
Tomlinson is not an average guard. He is rated
#13 of 82 guards in the league. He is well above average and will get paid as such.
For comparison, Sportrac calculates FA market value based on 4 similar players. They list the following market value for guards in similar ranking:
Connor Williams - PFF ranking #11 (2 above LT) at $13.7M APY.
Alex Cappa - #18 (5 below LT) at $10.7M APY.
James Daniels - #19 at $7.3M APY
Austin Corbett - #22 at $8.7M APY.
Tomlinson was earning $5.5M this past season. So, we can assume it will cost at least $10M APY to resign him. Based on the comps listed, he is worth at least that much. He is in his prime and has been an iron man for the past two years.
