Hey NC, did you happen to catch yesterdays JAX game?

I just realized that JAX adjusted their scheme to accommodate the three talented LBs they've got, and play 3 off-ball LBs in base. They appear to run an over front as their base alignment. Their "big personnel", as you like to say , protects those three smaller(but hyper-athletic) LBs.

Saleh could do that if they drafted Roquan. Otherwise, Malcolm Smith can play with his thumbs on the bench.

Follow up, I made this for the visual people :

Hero! Thanks for that insight and visual. Yeah, I think this "big personnel" is right up Saleh's alley and in front of Roquan and Foster? Maybe M.Smith's speed too? Yes please!

Play foster, smith and roquan and you could rush from anywhere.

We do got the beef.. But who were they running as their ends?

Solly and AA/Tank/Blair/Day/Douz should be able to handle it. Heck you can even put Mitchell at end and put lil dancing panda DJ at NT.

You look at that group of guys, and the sheer magnitude of it is impressive. True we have no real stud , except for Buckner , but somehow Lynch has accumulated this crew which none of us know what exactly to expect from them, but on just talent alone, i can't wait to see what they can do. Right now we just have talented guys and no real DL team. But somehow, with :

Buckner/Solomon. AA/ Blair. Day/Douz. Mitchell/DJ It just looks like we can fashion a very nice DL out of all that. Sure we need an ER in the worst kind of way....but if we can land a guy like that, it sure seems that we have a load of talent in the aggregate, for our DL. Even better news is Reuben at LB and Adrian at CB. And spoon. And that is BEFORE we do anything in FA or Draft....and the draft we pray for that 'must have" ER. Getting the right guys to play with the other right guys will be the trick, but no reason it can't get done. And then we may have a bona Fide pair of 4 man teams that can rotate every 5 plays. And that , as noted, is before we even consider someone else for the DL. Oh, and i didn't even mention Dooms. It will be fascinating to see what exactly we have on DL once TC rolls around. But aside from the fact we have a very nice aggregate of talent, just how it all works together will be interesting to watch. Plus we may have one or two DLs on IR/PUP that may very well work out once healthy. The odds our D looks menacing this yr are starting to look very good. Getting them to work as a unit is where the coaching job lies. But talent? We seem to be off on a good footing there.

To be fair both Elvis and Marsh were very productive rushing the passer when you consider the limited number of snaps they were given for some reason.

Who cares about his salary. We have like 1.5 trillion dollars to spend.

Have you checked out the depth on our LB chart? It is non-existant.

There is no scenario imaginable in which Malcolm Smith will not be on this team.

lots think he will be our savior. he is average and we dang well better upgrade the linebackers across the board. foster can not be counted on to last a full year in my opinion due to his injuries and his off the field antics

Lol. No one has said he's the savior. In fact the majority want to draft Smith to replace him.

LOL...dude, we were 6th in YPC in run defense WITH Brock Coyle, quite literally, in the middle of the defense. Malcolm Smith will be a massive upgrade over Coyle but nobody other than you is implying he's our savior. In fact, most mock drafts have us taking Roquan Smith.

re sign Coyle. Pray Malcom Smith is recovered and that Foster can stay healthy. If they draft Roquan Smith the middle of our defense will be rock rock solid for the next 4 or 5 years. My preference would be to go in a different direction but if he is bpa then so be it.

My preference
OL
Edge pass rusher
Shut down corner

You do know coyle is havin surgery also?
Saleh wanted Smith...remember, they have history together in Seattle. I'm sure RS has his reasons for wanting Malcolm. It's arguably because he sees his value whereas we may not, given his most recent playing experience was in Oakland. I'm taking a wait & see attitude toward him...for me, Saleh's earned a good deal of faith by now. So, we'll see what happens. Agree, Lynch will need to acquire some more LB talent, whether Smith pans out or not.
