Hey NC, did you happen to catch yesterdays JAX game?

I just realized that JAX adjusted their scheme to accommodate the three talented LBs they've got, and play 3 off-ball LBs in base. They appear to run an over front as their base alignment. Their "big personnel", as you like to say , protects those three smaller(but hyper-athletic) LBs.

Saleh could do that if they drafted Roquan. Otherwise, Malcolm Smith can play with his thumbs on the bench.

We have the personnel to run a big front like JAK.

5T- Solomon Thomas
NT- Sheldon Day
3T- Deforest Buckner
LEO- Arik Armstead

SAM- Malcolm Smith
MIKE- Reuben Foster
WILL- Roquan Smith

Those 3 linebackers flying around would be unreal.

I can live with this until we get a real 3-down LEO.

Never know, there's some good options in the draft.

The more I look at it, the more it leads me to believe that Malcolm's services wont be needed here..
What is M. Smiths ideal LB position Sam or Will? Also is Foster pretty much now our Mike LB?

Except we don't have guys like Campbell (AA is trash and will be lucky to make the team as a backup) Day is not a NT. and we don't have a speed rusher like Ngakoue. We really don't have anything close to Jax DL.

AA is not trash, calm down.

He has played quite well when he isn't hurt. Problem is he is always hurt

We don't have anything close to their depth and quality of edge rushers. But Buckner, Thomas and Day is a great start with the interior pass rush.

Dumervil played quite well in limited snaps and so did Cassius Marsh who is a free agent who I expect back. I also fully expect us to draft a pass rusher
With all the concerns about Reuben, I think the case for drafting a player like Roquan Smith is even stronger.

With Roquan Smith coming out as an MLB, if you want to keep him there, you could theoretically keep Foster at WILL, and then rotate Harold out on running downs for Malcolm Smith. Malcolm Smith would also obviously serve as a strong backup for Foster should he get hurt again.

Follow up, I made this for the visual people :

Do you think either R Smith could play SAM in our D? Smith-Foster-Smith with Coyle, Harold, and Reid/Tartt as rotational pieces would be solid.

Good call!

My main concern is Foster being so prone to injury

Hero! Thanks for that insight and visual. Yeah, I think this "big personnel" is right up Saleh's alley and in front of Roquan and Foster? Maybe M.Smith's speed too? Yes please!

If Nelson is gone, this might have been my pick either way but Foster's recent choices certainly make it more justifiable.

Play foster, smith and roquan and you could rush from anywhere.
