The offense has been improving week by week you say?! Is that why we have now lost 10 straight and broken the all-time franchise record of having the longest losing streak?

Actually, the offense has looked better the last few games......just because the defense gave up a ton of points doesn't mean the offence hasn't looked better.

Mike Shanahan should've been hired THIS year, only to reel in his son in the future.

9er fans love to live in the past. The "anyone but what we have" crowd are why we're in this predicament. This is the same group that was all for getting rid of Harbaugh and thought Tomsula would be a better coach. All I see is a bunch of desperate people grasping at anything and change just for change's sake.

This...we aren't firing chip after one season and be paying for 3 HCs lol.

Everyone and their mother knew we were gonna blow and it was a evaluation yr to see who fits the scheme, the only move I see happening is maybe gamble taking over and a new DC.

Agree

At the very least Gamble & new DC.

IMO, we need better and more.

yeah I'm guessing one more yr for Chip to turn it around.

FYI I was in Vegas early this month my wife did the rock and roll marathon (plus my parents live there)...I was sick for like two weeks after not used to the dry desert air lol

Mike should have been hired LAST year more like instead of that farting butcher-looking sorry excuse of a head coach called Tomsula, he was a complete embarrassment!

Chip Kelly probably has like a 5% chance maximum of getting fired this year. Kyle Shanahan is also very young.

I'm all for Mike Shanahan being our GM, though. Anything to get Baalke out of the building. And if Kelly shows no progress next year, THEN we can bring Kyle Shanahan in, who should be much more well-seasoned.

Honestly though, I don't want to get excited or eager about this at all. I was eager at this time last year when the HC search was on, and it resulted in well... the disaster of a season we're all watching now.

If Kyle Shanahan is "too young" to be our HC, what difference will another year make? He's been calling plays (and been successful at it) the better part of eight years so I'm confident that he knows what he's doing.

Also, I'm sure coming up under some great coaches (e.g., his father, Kubiak) has shortened the learning curve.

I don't know if he's even interested in the 49ers, but I think it's safe to assume that he will be head coach somewhere next season.

I actually did some quick research after my post and figured that he's really not as young as I thought. Mike Tomlin won a Super Bowl at age 36. Shanahan turns 37 next month so you're right. A couple months from now would be a great time for him to look at HC vacancies.

Why? Do you want to keep losing?

Sure worked out well for him..... Hired at 33. Fired before the end of his 2nd season.

Not sure what any of that has to do with Kyle Shanahan.

1) Nobody said he's a lock to win a SB. However, I think we all can agree there are worse options out there.

2) I think the saying "correlation does not imply causation" fits here. Just because another young coach flamed out it doesn't mean the next guy will. John Harbaugh and (as someone said uptheead) Mike Tomlin won Super Bowls at a young age.

As I said, Kyle Shanahan WILL be a head coach next year. If the 49ers know they don't want Kelly long term (or he bolts back to Oregon), they should already be on the phone with his agent.

1. Who said anything about a Superbowl? Or that there might be worse options?

2. John Harbaugh was 50 when he won the Superbowl. That is young to you?

3. No the 49ers should not be on the phone with his agent as he would be a terrible choice for HC. He has been ranked 15 or worse in scoring 6 of 9 years as an OC. He has also been outside the top 10 in rushing offense in 7 or his 9 years including two seasons ranked 30th and 3 ranked 17th or worse. He was also largely responsible for putting together the staff in Washington.

4. I don't see any love for Mike Shula who had the #1 offense last year. Is it because he has no connection to the 49ers?

5. Speaking of that I wish people would stop bringing him up because his dad coached here 22 years ago. Can fans just not move on? I live in Chicago and i never hear anyone here clamoring for the Ryan brothers to come back.

1. I did because the opposite of getting fired in the NFL is winning a chip. Obviously, I was exaggerating.

2. My bad on John Harbaugh. Still, the point remains that there are plenty of "young" coaches who have found success in the league.

3. Interesting way to breakdown his stats. But if we're going by points scored doesn't that make Shula worse by comparison? His claim to fame is ONE hot year. And with the way the Panthers are playing now I wouldn't want him anywhere near the 49ers.

Not sure where you're driving at with your comment about "he was largely responsible for putting together the staff in Washington."

4. Speaking for myself I really don't give a damn who does or doesn't have a connection to the 49ers. If they can come in and win games, that's all I care about.

5. I brought him up because he knows offense and is bound to be a hot coaching prospect come the offseason.

LOL @ all the fans who think we can just bring back the glory days coaches and recreate the dynasty.

Shanahan and Holmgren are old, and set in their primitive football ways. Their dinosaur playbooks would get ripped apart by modern defenses.

Theres also no way Shanahan would work for Jed York.
