The tears in the Michigan locker room, those were real, though, and should have put any talk of a fake injury to rest. Why would he have gone through warm-ups if he was never going to play in the Orange Bowl? What purpose would that serve? The last thing he would want was to be a distraction.

The decision to go pro was an easy one, and no one should be surprised. It's probably only complicated by the fact that he missed much of his freshman season with an injury. Had he played three seasons for the Wolverines, we might have seen more telling us that he's prepared.

But he is ready. What type of player will he be in the NFL? Valuable. What position will he play? Does it really matter?

The NFL is full of hybrid players. Landon Collins for the Giants is technically a safety, but didn't he provide run support for the defense, and rush the passer at times? Quarterbacks are now runners and throwers. Tight ends line up as wide receivers and also block. Running backs catch the ball. No one has just one role. Peppers will be a match-up fixer for defenses. He'll be a general managers' dream, too. They can pay him (a lot) to do multiple things, but still consider it a bargain.

I talked to at least one North Jersey non-public coach who thinks Peppers might be best utilized on offense with his speed, but he's said in the past he prefers defense, and that's probably where he'll wind up."

Teams are asking him if he would play some RB/slot WR for them.

Dude is getting lost in the shuffle, reminds me of the Polamalu/Bob Sanders molds. Should be a top 10 pick when all said and done.

Spot on MD, that's what all the NFL personnel guys are saying. I love his moxy and attitude. From watching him on the sideline and during the games, he has that Ray killer Lewis intensity. I'd love to trade back, get more picks this year and draft this guy. He's an instant impact pro bowl player.

He's been beaten deep on film quite a bit last season. Doesn't bode well.

The interesting question is, does he have the tools to develop into an Earl Thomas-type? Without having done a ton of research on the guy it's hard to say, but from what I've seen, he has the football skills and the right mentality to definitely play the deep middle in this defense. Does he have the instincts and discipline to make plays sideline-to-sideline and take away plays because of his mere presence??? That's the risk.

I dont think he projects to a single high center fielder type FS. Slower than expected also, tho he did put on a bunch of weight. Curious to know if wu was surprised by the 40 time

He ran faster than Earl Thomas who's the best in the business. Agreed that I don't know if he has Thomas' instincts to play that role (primarily because he hasn't been in that position), but the physical tools seem there. Maybe he's more of a Polomalu, but he's an interesting prospect to evaluate.

Earl ran a 4.43 so he'd be a bit slower than him. Troy ran a 4.33. I think today confirmed he's s strong safety prospect and really shouldn't be drafted until the 2nd or 3rd. It's not out of the question that he can't improve his instincts. A Wilson only had 3 college picks but with a high pick I don't think you want to make that bet.
