Dave Caldwell, Jaguars general manager, on where Peppers would fit on an NFL team

"It depends on your scheme. This next couple days will depend on how much he weighs, what he runs and the athletic testing skills."

Chase Goodbread @ChaseGoodbread
#49ers GM Lynch on Jabrill Peppers' NFL position:
"I haven't figured that out, but I know it's a fun film to watch. He's electric."

John Dorsey, Kansas City Chiefs general manager

"He is a very unique athlete, an East Orange, New Jersey, guy. The guy is going to come here, he's probably going to blow the combine up, and I think it's whichever team selects him where they feel most comfortable, because there's some people at one time thought he was a top-10 running back, (or) could have been a top-10 running back early in his career. As you see, (Michigan defensive coordinator) Don Brown now moves him over to the other side of the ball where he can try to work him up closer to the line of scrimmage, so now he's a dime linebacker. There are other times where we see him on the jet-sweep-reverse and you just see him explode through the defense.

"I do find him a fascinating study in terms of where do you play him. It's kind of like the study a couple of years ago I think with Shaq Thompson that the Panthers drafted, he was the running back-linebacker guy. It'll be interesting to see where, at the end of the day, people have him on their boards."

Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers coach

"We want to evaluate a player like him, because we did the same thing with Shaq Thompson. We had everybody talking to us like, 'Oh, he's a special teams player' to (saying), 'He's a running back, he's a safety, he's a linebacker.' But we looked at him and thought, 'Where would he best fit us?' For us, it was the linebacker position, for us it was what we call the Buffalo position, the Buffalo nickel.

"Where you can take a bigger guy, put him out to a slot receiver and still have some athleticism to help you. Well, when you look at Peppers, you look at what he does, wow. Here's a guy that gives you some safety traits. Here's a guy that can probably come down in the box like a nickel, come down in the box like a linebacker. And if you ever really did need it, you can put him on the offensive side as well. He's got a lot of special-teams value. So you have to really break it down to how does he fit you, and what other special traits he has to have the rest of the football team."

Im sorry but Ward cant do this or is on Peppers level. He brings something to the table you dont get often..

Just because he is being put there still doesn't mean he will perform. You still have to draft a safety. Whether Malik, Jabrill, Adams or another.

I'll give ward a chance doesnt mean i trust in him.

no you don't...you see how he plays then you draft a player if need be after the fact. I like the kid from Ucon as a SS in the mid rds, don't ask me how to spell his name

Create competition with Ward because if ward struggles at safety, then what? Wait til next year when we passed up a loaded safety draft? Thats a gamble... imho

You do know we have 9 other picks and FA we don't have to draft the top safety at two or whatever lol.

We currently have 3 top 40 pick safeties on this team playing on rookie contracts

You must understand the player and what he brings to the team. We have average players. We dont have any stars on this team besides bowman. I'm not looking for average, I had enough with average....

What we have is a disaster on defense. Thats what we have. We can start there.

One of these years you and I will agree on the first round pick

I want Jabril, especially if we trade back
I would imagine that we have many offers (teams without a QB who want Trubisky will assume we will take him and probably offer us a little more capital than the 2nd overall is worth)
And if that happens^ I am all for trading back and bringing in a player like Peppers

This is my main reason for wanting either him or Hooker
http://ninerswire.usatoday.com/2017/02/17/kyle-shanahan-new-49ers-coordinator-will-run-seahawks-style-defense/

We are running a Seahawk style defense. Its been agreed upon by both Shanny and our new DC.
A typical (and probably the most common formation) of the Seattle defense is 8 in the box, with one deep alignment. Their FS covers the top, while their corners press and the 8 in the box either cover the flats, or blitz. Its a highly effective scheme against the pass and if run correctly, can completely disrupt an offense.

Simply put, Earl Thomas makes their defense.
He is the integral part in that machine.
A stat from when he was hurt
Quarterbacks targeting the deep middle were completing 14.3% of their passes with an average of 3.8 yards-per-attempt for a passer rating of 13.9 before Thomas' injury. Since the injury, those numbers have jumped to 71.4%, 29.4 and 153.3, respectively.

I think Peppers has the talent and ability to do what Earl Thomas does (same with Hooker)
If we are looking for a rookie to come in and have the biggest immediate impact, its going to be at the FS position and IMO its going to have to be Peppers

Well this is awkward...

I'd take him in the 2nd round...maybe.

He may not be a top 3 safety in this class for crying out loud. The guy had 1 interception in his whole college career. He's a great athlete and maybe he'll be a great pro one day but some guys are always around the ball and making impact plays. Those guys turn into worthwhile safeties that you draft early.

You need to do your homework.. Once he kills this draft with speed and his hips, his stock is going to rise.

Your still not understanding the kind of player he is. You talk 1 int but he was asked to play lb his last year. and performed very well 3 awards and a heisman candidate..

People leave out in 2015 he had 10 pass defensive break ups, when he did play safety.. You clearly don't understand the monster he is.

While Jamal Adams and Malik Hooker was on the bench drinking water.... Jabrill was doing it on a high level on another position. Give me a break he is not a top 3 Safey-Hybrid..

Do your homework diligently...

I respect your opinion but I'm pretty sure I'm entitled to mine as well.

I couldnt' care less about him playing on offense since I care about what he'll be doing in the NFL. He may have a moment here and there but he's not playing RB full time in the NFL. He'll have one position and stick with it.

As a safety he's a weaker prospect than those other two. And for me I think there's something about his lack of big play. Someone with his athletic ability should be making a lot more big plays. The fact that he's not is concerning to me.

It could be because he was a jack of all trades but a master of none and if he sticks to one position maybe he'll be a constant all pro...but I wouldn't take that risk in the first round.

The fact that he measured in so much smaller is also a big red flag.
Jesus, he came in tiny.

Physically, he's a slightly thicker Jimmie Ward.

You can't blame him for coaches moving him around.. Once he settles into a position in the NFL. He will be a monster. I respect your opinion just asking not to leave things out. That's all because it's not his fault he is that gifted.
