Seen it to many times. Dual threat QB is going to come in, be great & change the game. It always ends the same way. Even Cam Newton has had an up and down career. Plus i don't think Shanahan likes these type of QBs.

He looked like a gimmick a year ago but all you have to do is go and watch a few of his games this season to see a quarterback who is much improved as a passer, a guy carrying an otherwise bad team.

Also different from Kaepernick is a much more natural delivery and throwing motion, a compact, quick release. His footwork is still inconsistent but his improvement this season seems to indicate the work ethic and self-awareness to continue becoming a better passer.

I'll have to watch him some more this year. Honestly I'm so soured on big rushing QBs I haven't watched him much this year. Do we know anything about him off the field? Work ethic? Intelligence?

Louisville is diverse and unique in personnel usage. They may line up one rep in 13 Personnel, sub in 2 backs and play out of the Diamond formation, then bring a couple of TE's back in and play out of empty.
The offense is pro style, and mirrors some of the spread elements Jim Harbaugh used to unleash the legs of Colin Kaepernick in the run game. Petrino wants to hit a defense with inside zone and stretch zone from as many formations and with as many "tags", reads and adjustments as he can to set up the perimeter game for his QB.
In the pass game, you'll see exactly how Petrino is readying Jackson for the next level.
Petrino rarely calls for "quick" game passing routes, in stark contrast to the "rhythm" offense we watched Clemson employ with Deshaun Watson last season.

It cannot be stressed enough that Bobby Petrino is willing to run just about anything from just about any personnel grouping. Personnel groupings are not indicators of run/pass tendencies, and that makes their play-action game deadly.
From 12 Personnel, they use a split-zone play fake to hold the defense still just long enough for the "Yankee" pass concept to get behind the defense.

Yankee is Shanny's favorite vertical concept. It's a sign.

Petrino doesn't have the best reputation of developing QBs in the NCAA that go on to be successful NFL players. That's not a ding on Jackson per se as Phoenix outlined some very good points on his abilities and offensive scheme. However, D recognition will be critical in his NFL interviews to determine how high in the draft he goes.

But if Mariota can go #2 overall, so can Jackson.

Would like to know if Jackson is going the Watson route and pursuing QB guru's around the country to help him with his game.

This was from an article in June:

On Memorial Day weekend, he participated in QB guru Steve Clarkson's camp in California, and later this month he'll attend Peyton, Eli and Archie's Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana.

Petrino said attending those camps is fun for Jackson and good for U of L's program.

The coach added, "Lamar is one of the greatest kids you could ever ask for in your program because he loves to coming to practice, loves his teammates and really works hard and wants to be coached every play. It's been a joy coaching him."

His hard work is paying off because he's a much-improved passer from the pocket.

When a guy really puts in the work, you don't need to be told, it shows up in his play. I still have no clue if Dak Prescott worked with anyone going into his senior year but his improvement was absolutely unmistakable. That doesn't happen by accident.
Phoenix if you had to pick one, who would it be between Rosen and Jackson

Nothing to do with race. I would have loved it if we drafted Watson. Has anyone heard this guy in an interviw? He sounds retarded.

That has more to do with where he was raised than intellect. A lot of guys from places like Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama sound the same way, but are very football smart, like Frank Gore.

Honestly... i don't buy that. My wife's from Alabama and she's an M.D. when i visit down there people can communicate. Jackson might be the dumbest sounding ball player ever. Do you want your star qb to sound like that?

Not sure he sounds dumb...not the most well spoken guy around but I see more of a shy/young kid talking than an idiot.

Of course the question will be can he carry a huddle of grown ass men? Eli isn't the smartest sounding guy and not the most outgoing personna but he's done well. Tough to say. I do think it's pretty clear the question with Lamar aren't his physical attributes. Can he handle an NFL offense, can he handle the NFL locker room, etc...those are always super tough to predict.

1. Rosen-I think he's the best fit for Shanahan's offense, pro style QB all the way, terrific mechanics, need to evaluate his intangibles, how coachable he is....etc.

2. Jackson-Explosive athlete, has improved considerably as a passer, plays in an offense which includes numerous pro style concepts. Seems more like the quiet, lead by example type.

How old was he in this interview? He was 19 years old last season, and just turned 20 in january!

Eli Manning and Andrew Luck were 23 when they were drafted.

Biggest issue I see here is Lamar Jackson wasn't a hold back therefore he comes off like the kid he is. Video games and all, he's not a full grown man, just plays football like one.

Here is the 20 year old version, I can already see the growth:
