This is an important distinction that needs to be made. I've harped on it too many times. Rashard wasn't playing trail technique, he was literally trailing. He got beat. Burnt toast. Dookie. Buns. Not sure what other synonym is needed.
He should have much more success in NY, where the scheme is conducive to his skills.

Maybe he will, but he sucked here, terrible pick especially considering who should've been drafted instead, but unfortunately the 49ers had an abject moron for a GM. Good riddance.

So we should be free of 2-3 penalties a game now?

Exactly. He's a man coverage guy. Completely lost in a zone scheme.

Meh, whatever, that "lots of promise" was a bit exaggerated to me, I certainly never he thought he was even close to the breathless proclamations of "shutdown corner" and dudes swooning like schoolgirls over a photo of him at TC because he did some dumbbell curls.
And no amount of "promise" detracts from the fact that, all things considered, it was a terrible pick. Like I said, maybe he does thrive elsewhere, good luck and goodbye.

no, all the things considered he was not a terrible pick. neither we wanted to switch to a cover3 nor RR was bad in the system we used last year. Remember, JoN wanted aggressive CBs. RR (and ward) are aggressive, therefore fit the system well.Originally posted by DelCed2486:Meh, whatever, that "lots of promise" was a bit exaggerated to me, I certainly never he thought he was even close to the breathless proclamations of "shutdown corner" and dudes swooning like schoolgirls over a photo of him at TC because he did some dumbbell curls.

Probably means nothing, but Todd Bowles had to find out from a reporter about this trade.

Ha, the hell he wasn't...idiot Baalke was terrified of drafting an offensive skill player earlier than the 6th round, so after the dumb pick of ACL Redmond in the 3rd, he doubled down on his incompetence and went to his CB security blanket with Robinson in the 4th, all with Dak Prescott just sitting there. And this was a team with an injured/disgruntled Kaepernick and Jags bust Gabbert at QB
I don't care who your never done jack s**t DC wants, a potential FQB trumps a CB, especially when that QB can be had without the price/pressure of a 1st rd pick, and oh yeah, when that QB also happens to have run the same offense you're running, while playing for 3 years under the hometown buddy of your HC...and gosh, shouldn't the HC have some say like the exhalted DC? Because that HC wanted that QB, but hey f**k that, more DBs! It was a terrible pick the day it happened and certainly no better now.
While the jury will be out for a while on this new regime, they do get brownie points now for thankfully throwing out Baalke's trash.

a potential FQB does not sit around at the end of round 4 and one should not judge that way.Originally posted by DelCed2486:Ha, the hell he wasn't...idiot Baalke was terrified of drafting an offensive skill player earlier than the 6th round, so after the dumb pick of ACL Redmond in the 3rd, he doubled down on his incompetence and went to his CB security blanket with Robinson in the 4th, all with Dak Prescott just sitting there. Did RR showed some talent? yes he did. this season the system switched. this is a crucial fact.
Ward was a future SS or FS. on the top of that he showed that he can handle the slot and usual CB duties.

Uh, well obviously one did sit around until the 4th...even me as an amateur "evaluator" knew Prescott was going to be very good...his languishing on the board had to do with the DUI he got prior to the draft, although 5 minutes of "investigation" would have revealed this wasn't some 3am, driving 120, blew a .16. It was "mundane" as DUIs go, not to mention shaky, which is why he was acquitted. Regardless, Baalke's HC wanted Prescott, but Baalke's an idiot and wasnt particularly great at his job, so of course he passed.

A pick is judged by expectation-performance-ratio on the one hand and the total outcome on the other hand. If you invest a 4th-rounder or even lower and the guy turns out to be a talented starter, you did a good job. RR was that guy last year.
