Interesting that the 49ers sent the team chaplain to talk with this kid. Often having a strong spiritual influence around a kid that has had troubles in the past gives them a sense of belonging and hope that goes well beyond the tough business of football. Good insight on Baalke's part to do this.

I looked up Earl Smith and he is a chaplain at San Quentin.
So, I think the meeting might have also been to get a read on the kid. Was he just young and dumb with a weak spot for football? Or is he a troublemaker that hides behind the football player image? (I'm hoping the former, kind of like Lynch.)

Makes sense, I know nothing about the kids back ground.

But if there was ever a sport where robbery translates over it would be at the CB position in football. We don't need straight A students or perfect citizens, we just need hard nosed football players. Also, with his current contract he won't need to rob anyone else anytime soon.

Yup. That is pretty bad. Hopefully he cleaned it up. But there are some other issues also. This is a high risk pick.

crack head fo sho.

He says he's up to about 182 now. If he can get up to 190-195 that would be awesome

His mobility should be off the charts at his current weight. I am not concerned with weight when it comes to CB's.

You will when he's getting trucked by Larry Fitzgerald.

Here's some of the best CBs in the NFL and size...

Daruis Slay 6-1 190
Sherman 6-3 194
Johnathan Joseph 5-11 188
Stephon Gilmore 6-0 190
Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie 6-2 190
Josh Norman 6-0 190

Robinson is only 20 years old there's no reason he can't get to 185-190 now that he's going to be working with a NFL training staff and actually getting paid.

The guy is gonna get better... he's gonna play with that chip on his shoulder.. he's gonna be good.. become a free agent.. and Baalke (if still here) will not give him the PRIME PRICE three years from now..

so, by the time we're contending again, we'll find a nice rookie playing for that spot..

OR he'll exstend him cheap in his 3rd year like he does with most of his in-house players

Damn didnt know sherman is 6'3.
at the combine, it was believed that he would run in the 4.2's. However he ran a 4.5 40, but with that type of hype he must be blistering fast!

Right, people thought he had stiff hips and lack of quickness/change of direction because of how tall he was.
The Cards since Steve Keim became GM have their owner interview guys like this.

Michael Bidwill is a former federal prosecutor and was on the radio talking about how he knows how to cut through the BS and see who is serious and who isnt. Thus far with guys like Mathieu, hard to say that it hasnt worked out for them. Nkemdiche might be another homerun for them.

I dont think the 49ers ownership has much to contribute in this area.

I loved the Honey Badger when he came out, while most shot me down. He definitely hasn't disappointed. He was always around the ball. This kid better keep his mind right and eye on the prize.. You have a lot of negatives.. Including Baalke picking you too soon.. I hope he becomes that good but he has a long way to go.
