On Saturday, the San Francisco 49ers announced the following roster moves ahead of Sunday's game with the Miami Dolphins. The game will be the 49ers' home opener at Levi's Stadium.
- Placed rookie WR De'Zhaun Stribling on injured reserve
- Promoted Ogbo Okoronkwo to the active roster
Stribling will miss roughly 10 weeks of the season after undergoing surgery on Wednesday to repair a ruptured deltoid (ankle). This is a big blow for the rookie and for the 49ers, as Stribling was going to be a big part of the offense this season. The hope is that he can return in late November or early December.
Okoronkwo (6-2, 253) was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fifth round (160th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his eight-year NFL career with the Rams (2019-21), Houston Texans (2022), Cleveland Browns (2023-24), Philadelphia Eagles (2025), and 49ers (2026), he has appeared in 82 games (13 starts) and registered 127 tackles, 17.0 sacks, four passes defensed, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He has also appeared in seven postseason contests where he tallied four tackles and one pass defensed. In 2026, he signed to the 49ers practice squad on August 31 and appeared in the team's Week One game against the Los Angeles Rams.
A 31-year-old native of Gainesville, FL, Okoronkwo attended the University of Oklahoma for four seasons (2014-17) where he appeared in 46 games (27 starts) and registered 164 tackles, 21.0 sacks and five forced fumbles. As a junior in 2016, he earned Second-Team All-Big-12 Honors.
In other team news, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area is reporting that Eddy Piñeiro will kick for the 49ers on Sunday against the Dolphins. On Saturday, the team had tryouts with veteran kickers Greg Joseph and Younghoe Koo. Neither was signed.
The NFL announced on Saturday that 49ers TE Jake Tonges was fined $9,266 for a leg-whip block. Per Maiocco, "The play in question was for an attempted block on Rams DE Myles Garrett. It was the play on which Tonges sustained a season-ending knee injury."
Also, according to Maiocco, 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was fined $20,033 for unnecessary roughness (illegal use of his helmet). The penalty was committed on the 49ers' first play of the second half.
