Sounds like he can hold his own in pass pro but isn't great in run blocking. I'm not worried about his run blocking. Playing with Staley, Kilgore, Boone, and A.Davis it will be a lot easier than playing with Buffalo's crummy oline. This guy may not see the field, but if he does at least we know Kap will have more time in the pocket than he did when Iupati was pass blocking. I think this will be a diamond in the rough pick up.

Martin should be gone
This. We have plenty of depth inside. Hopefully he provides what we thought J Martin would. And if he doesn't, hopefully we don't keep sending him out there like Solari did with Martin last year. Better yet, hopefully Pears doesn't have to play at all

-1.8 run block
2012 RT
-1.8 pass block
-5.0 run block
2013 RT
+0.8 pass block
-10.4 run block
2014 RG
-15.1 pass block
-11.5 run block
This one actually MAY be camp fodder. Basically, he's competing on the Jonathan Martin and Adam Snyder level as the swing-T/G. Filling out the 90.

#49ers Stats @49ers_Stats
Erik Pears allowed 33 pressures (4 sacks) in 632 pass blocking snaps. Mike Iupati allowed 31 pressures (7 sacks) in 514.
Iupati played the NFC West defensive fronts twice a year.
Pears practiced against the best defensive front in the AFC East.

We build through the draft. The only time we really ever sign someone to start is at WO like T. Smith. Why are some of you so down on the FO. This is what they have done for years.

I certainly hope the contract is written that way. Reviews that I've seen say this guy is somewhere between mediocre and poor (Pass vs run) and probably close to out of the League.

That's what we all said about the Jonathan Martin trade n how did that work out for us last yr?
Martin played good in spots. he's not a starter and he shouldn't have been starting as many games as he was. in spot work he was great for us and filled the role.
as a permanent starter? there's a reason we paid anthony davis...

I'm not mad at it. Bring him in, let him compete with Jonathan Martin for the swing tackle spot and whoever loses gets cut. Sounds good to me.

Martin didn't play all that bad, he had some bad games but he also played well at times, he certainly wasn't Kwame level. I'm not upset at that acquisition at all. Let him compete with this guy and whoever else the 49ers bring in for a spot.

This. Martin started far more than anyone could have expected. People seemingly had the unrealistic expectation that Martin would be =Anthony Davis and thats just kind of silly. There's a reason Davis got like a $50 million contract. In spots Martin played well, maybe he'll do better in a zone blocking scheme, I don't know but for a backup tackle he was okay. The 49ers have certainly had far worse over the years.

Yeah! If you're not an all-pro how dare Baalke even consider him! f**k your roster depth.
