Here Are His PFF Stats

2011 RT
+1.8 pass block
-1.8 run block

2012 RT
-1.8 pass block
-5.0 run block

2013 RT
+0.8 pass block
-10.4 run block

2014 RG
-15.1 pass block
-11.5 run block

Looks like he can hold his own in pass protection as a tackle.

I've heard Tackle is where he was best while with the Bills - I guess they had to move him to G last year due to injuries/personnel issues? He's versatile to play both G and T - at T he's probably/hopefully better than J. Martin. Another experienced, decent talent on the OL to compete for a role on the team - I like it.

I think he may be the replacement or competing with J martin for the swing tackle back up spot. He is a much better player when in space at tackle. Moved inside he struggles.
Dude sucks. Of course we would sign him

Is this the time of year when people complain about 2nd and 3rd stringers getting signed...............Let's see what this guy can do in a 49ers uniform before judging him.

The front office saw something in him that they liked, judging by their past track record with FA's, this guy could actually turn out a lot better than the pessimist's expect, particularly if they are going to use him at tackle.

#49ers Stats @49ers_Stats
Erik Pears allowed 33 pressures (4 sacks) in 632 pass blocking snaps. Mike Iupati allowed 31 pressures (7 sacks) in 514.

So basically, for those wondering, that is...

Iupati: 1/17 snaps a pressure was allowed. 1/73 snaps a sack was allowed.
Pears:: 1/19 snaps a pressure was allowed. 1/158 snaps a sack was allowed.

Erik Pears had a -25.0 grade at guard in 2014 (76 of 78), assuming #49ers signed him to back up at tackle where he's played most of career.

And this is at his less desirable position of G he is much better at tackle
People are getting mad that a depth player sucks? Well no s**t. He's not going to start.

lol, dude, we were just subjected to a season of Johnathan Martin.

-8.4 in 2013, -8.2 in 2012, -1.3 in 2011 at right tackle RT @karymack: @PFF_Jeff what were his stats like at tackle? Better?

Depth for competition. Works for me.

At some point with the roster you're just throwing s**t against the wall.

It's a depth signing. Nothing more.

Camp competition. No guarantee he makes the roster.
