The 49ers have a way of bringing in bargain basement guys and having them be productive. Let's be cereal, that Bills OL over the last few years has been anything but stacked with talent. If this guy can compete for a roster spot and can hold down a backup spot and be a decent spot starter, that's fine as I doubt there's very much guaranteed money in his deal at all.

I just think its funny how people overreact. If this guy does well, he'll get a roster spot, if not, he'll get cut, people acting like the 49ers are making withdrawals from their own personal checking accounts to pay for these guys and s**t. This wouldn't be the first example of a guy who struggled on a bad team but looked much improved when surrounded by better talent. Worth a shot IMO.

Martin didn't play all that bad, he had some bad games but he also played well at times, he certainly wasn't Kwame level. I'm not upset at that acquisition at all. Let him compete with this guy and whoever else the 49ers bring in for a spot.

One of the few times I will disagree with you . j mart was horrendous. At least Kwame was a top notch run blocker. He helped pave the way for Franks monster season. Other than that he was a train wreck though.

Yeah, I don't see it. Martin had some very good moments and some very bad ones, he was up and down but he was also constantly having someone new play next to him, in general the entire OL was a mess last season, hard to blame any single one player for the issues that they experienced. Kilgore is the only guy I can honestly say played "well."


In anycase I'm fine with Martin competing with Pears and possibly a draft pick for the backup tackle spot.

What does your gut say they do with 1st pick? I really don't want OL. I think that is the beauty of having Boone is he can shoot out to OT if say AD gets hurt again then we have MM/Thomas/Looney/Apple to fill in at G.

From what i see D-line or wr seems like the best bet in the first round. You never know with the Baalkster tho. I think it will also depend on whos bpa. If theres a run on D-lineman bpa might be wr. If theres a run on wr bpa might be d-line.
Most of the other positions are pretty thin besides rb so i think before us it will be the top 2 qb prospects, top o-line and db will be gone. So i think the best value for the Niners will be bpa most likely with one of those positions being d-line and wr.

DL, CB or WR. Most likely I think DL with the departure of Justin Smith and the signing of Torrey Smith.

if he's better than iupati, and iupati was starting...

Warm bodies at bargain basement rates. After they tank ths season, they blow up the rest of the roster and Baalke can draft another round of cheap replacements.

Pear is 6'8" can play the low post with his back to the basket, all is not lost.
