Goldson had twice as many accepted penalties in his first 3 years as a starter than Reid has had to date.

Goldson was a tone setter and would knock out running backs on almost a weekly basis. Reid is probably a better safety and doesn't get the stupid penalties but when you knock out the starting RB it changes the dynamic of the game and betters your odds of winning.

Goldson was blooming when we let him sign with Tampa, while Reid was forced to play a very "need" position, and tho he was good a rookie, he really has been stinking up the joint the way Dana Hall did..

he sucked with tampa thats why he was cut two years later and is now one of the worst safeties in the nfl in washington. he was a product of a great front seven.

I would take reid any day of the week,
like you said, he was a product of a great front seven..

but bottom line is, we raised the guy, we took care of him for years knowing that he has a future.. then the minute he became a VERY SOLID FS, we cut ties w/him.. what kinda PLANNING IS THAT??

True he sucked at Tampa, and even at Washington, but NO ONE expected him to be an ALL PRO for both teams.. Tampa even drafted a partner Safety from Alabama, who they ended up letting go as well..

my point here is that he was playing like an ALL PRO here the last 2 years, and who knows, maybe, he coulda been an All Pro..

look at where Reid is at now, he's always behind a WR after making a big catch.. he claimed that he so excited about this new defense (during the training camp) because he gets to line up close to the line, ..

.. and what's he done????
Goldson made more impact plays and also instilled fear in the opposing team recievers and tight ends.

Him and whitner were a dynamic duo.

Reid started off nicely but regressed since knocking himself out a couple of times. He takes some bad angles.

We knew he was a product of the front seven, and he wasnt a great coverage player, and the rules about tackling in the nfl would only become more difficult for safeties and that goldson's play would suffer due to that. That sounds like fantastic foresight and future planning to me. And tot say they didnt plan for him to be all pro in tampa is stupid, you dont pay someone as much as they did without the expectation that he will be elite. He was TERRIBLE, in tampa, not just shaky, not just average, he has been GARBAGE since 2012. This is a business, and there is a salry cap. You shouldnt just throw money at players because you drafted them

Reid has been fffffaaaaaarrrr better over the last three years then goldson has over the last three, its not even close. And he has been fine this year, yeah he takes some bad angles here and there, but this front seven has been wildly inconsistent. Im not saying reid has been a homerun pick by any means, he has been average and he was a top 20 player, but goldson has been trash and a one trick pony.

The key point is your talking in the past tense, when the niners had the ebst front 7 in the nfl. Goldson is one of the worst coverage safeties in the nfl, and his hitting get him penalties. Yeah intimadate the opponent while you give them better field position and a new set of downs. While reid hasnt been great in coverage this year he has been far better then goldson, and while he doesnt hit AS hard as goldson he has laid some hits here and there.

You don't overpay guys who are a product of the system they are in and the talent around them. That was a smart move by Baalke, he understood DG's true value and would not give him a fat contract just because.

And Tampa expected Goldson to play like an all pro as evidenced by the fact that they paid him as such.

Exactly! Goldson was at least a presence on the field!

until he would give up penalties a touchdowns.

Reid has given up touchdowns all year! Rushing and passing, all while striking fear in no one! Did I mention that Goldson was not a first round pick? So he had to sit and watch for a couple years, he wasn't handed the job he earned it!

you do realize reid's only good year was with the same front 7 right?

I wish the team still had that same attitude and mentality.

15 yd penalty

Clean hit
If he weren't afraid to get injured he would be a pretty good safety IMO. Right now he's a average safety IMO.
Yeah ok Eric Reid better then Dashon?? HAHAHA Not even close. Eric Reid is a soft slow pu$$Y and yet another Baalke Casualty Bust Pick
