I would take Goldson over Reid but the NFL doesn't allow defenders to play defense anymore. You have to let the receiver catch the ball, turn around and start running before they're allowed to tackle them.

5'0 175 lb receivers are the norm these days. Those guys were track stars not football players 20 years ago.

And that, folks, is what our defense is missing. Criticize Goldson's coverage skills all you want, but WR's weren't as confident about coming through the middle of of our defense as they do now. I like Reid, but IMHO our defense was better, more intimidating with big hitters in the secondary. I don't know if it were Baalke or JH, but getting rid of both Hitner and Goldson hurt this defense.

Seriously if safeties were allowed to play like they used to be able to give me Whitner and Dashon setting the tone all day over Bethea and Reid

DG had a couple good seasons but he was one of the worst safeties in the NFL last year. ER is not even 24 yet I think. He is a great safety who is playing on just a terrible team. A lot of young players who were out of position an Eric trying to make up for rookies mistakes. I think we will see the pro bowl Eric Reid next season. I would never trade a 24 year old safety with his talent. Lock him up for the next 6 years!!

Their value was over-inflated because of the tremendous pressure he put on the Olines we faced.

With out a doubt....we need to get that strong pass rush from the DL again. Lots of these shutdown CBs has monster DLs...I think these highly paid CBs should give half their paycheck to their DLs lol

Even then, people still quetioned his coverage abilities when he was "good". I loved goldson's gane but he was very weak in covetage. Reid is just better for the game today, if we put a proper front 7 in front of him he is excellent.

Totally agree...got to be able to cover and Goldson just wasn't good at that.

No concussions for Reid this year which is good and like you said get a soild DL and pass rush and it will make all of the secondary better.
