Yeah he will pull a couple hammies but unlikely to break so many bones as a backup. Ward is definition of premium insurance you can hate it til you need it.

I posted on the eve of the tampering period that I thought the 49ers would check in on Earl Thomas but I expected their primary concerns to be getting a linebacker and a veteran pass rusher in fa or the trade market. Check. I posted I could see Jimmy Ward being a contingency plan to compete at safety, and I expected them to draft another young pass rusher and receiver in the first two rounds of the draft, while addressing free safety next year in the draft. So far I've been on point.

My guess is their operating under the thought process that a much improved pass rush will help band aid the back end of the defense this year. The free safety position more than anything.

Looks like Exum is trying (in vain) to tell Ward where to go. I wish Spoon would have played physical against Beckham at the start of the play, can't give OBJ a clean release like that.

Best case scenario is that if we draft a FS in the draft, and Ward gets cut. Would rather keep Marcel Harris and Colbert
