To be honest, I see much more respect for the Niners and the game in general on the Hawk site right now than I do here. Maybe it is just that the Seahawk threads here are where it is acceptable for the Niner fans to get out all of their Hawk hatred. That is useful, no doubt.
As far as one team focusing on the other with quite unreasonable hatred, I'm gonna have to say Niners are ahead based on what I scanned today. Much more reasonable discussion between the two fan bases being hosted on the Hawk site.
Also agree that Lisa12 is a classy Seahawk fan.
I remember going on ESPN and reading an article about Michael Crabtree expecting to return from injury and scrolled down to the comments and is was flooded with Seahawks fans stating that he is worthless and will be a non factor against the Seahawks. I was irritated that it was an injury update and fans of another team were talking trash. Mostly, I was surprised by the volume of Seahawk fans and the smack talk that was written.
I have been on the Seahawks.net and read a lot of what is written and I will say that this week has been less hate and more respectful banter, but the past month has been different. There is a lot of hateful things said about Harbaugh, Kaepernick, and Niner fans. I think it is even as opposed to one sided like you mention.
In my opinion, a lot of the hostility stems from the hypocrisy from both fan bases. The hatred for Harbaugh for his antics can only be matched by the hatred for Carroll and his history. The hatred over Kaepernick because of his ability is matched by the hatred for Wilson and his abilities. I do not find any of this warranted, but anyone can twist information to make someone the villain; for instance, Kaepernicking has been heavily scrutinized because he is the QB but a wideout taunting on his way to the endzone or a tailback stopping short of the goal line to taunt before scoring are generally accepted. "He is the quarterback and needs to act more professional," is a general response. Never mind the origins of Kaepernicking and the fact that his fans enjoy it, but it must be arrogance that drives him. We can be guilty of twisting information as well. Lynch fined for not talking to the media all year must mean he is arrogant or can't articulate himself. Forget that some people enjoy their privacy and there is nothing wrong with that. Both are equally guilty and to classify one fan base as classless or one classy is ridiculous in my opinion. Both are classless and if they weren't, this wouldn't be fun. Being a fan of a sports team allows adults to be immature, which is socially acceptable. I am proud to be a Niner fan and a part of the Niner nation and accept that we are inappropriate and profane at times.
Before this year, I have never considered the Seahawks as a target for my distaste. I have always considered Dallas, New York, and St. Louis as long time rivals. The emergence of Seattle and the high volume of responses from their fans against the niners on national forums has caught me off guard. Like I mentioned with the Crabtree injury report. It appeared to me that they were instigating on Niners news reports. I went to Seattle for the Week 2 game and was impressed with their dedication to their team (even if it has been short lived). I had a lot of unwarranted criticisms and plenty of profane, vulgar comments thrown my way. It was comical to me really. I was wearing a Steve Young jersey and people yelled "Young Sucks!!!" which we all know and they should know is completely false.
I have a lot of Niner fans and some Seahawk fans as friends and its been fun. My Seahawk friends do most of the talking and instigating, but that is in no way a generalization to the fan base. I do think this is the first year in a long time that they feel confident in their team and are very blunt and aggressive about showing their support. More power to them for that. I have seen this team win championships, experience the near miss, and bottom feeder days. Most of us have been thru all of this. Seahawk fans are trying to ride the high of being at the top because they haven't experienced it yet. I hope they don't this year, but whichever team wins will have definitely deserved it this year. These are the two best teams in the NFC and possibly the NFL, and whoever takes it this year will have beat the best to do so. It has been fun to watch and I can't wait for Sunday.
