He’s a one dimensional option shoot quarterback. It would take him years to master Harbaugh’s offense.

If he’s drafted early by a crappy team and starts early he will most likely fail. His best chance is to get taken by a decent team latter, sit and learn.

Hmm...he made plenty of throws where he is just sitting back in the pocket and then makin' the pass to the open guy.

A couple of days ago Mayock was going over him and said about 10% of his passes were NFL scenario reads. That's roughly 30-40 plays.

I'm not against Cam I just think there's a bigger developmental period than most Cam fans want to admit. Big Ben, Freeman. 3 year starters. I think he compares to them alot more than he does Vince but it's not a patient league anymore and he might get thrown into fire alot quicker than he should.

I think he is 2 years away, but it's not like he can't contribute from day 1. He can contribute in wildcat right away.

do we really want to pay mega bucks for a guy to ride the bench AND expose him to injury by having him run the ball?

our team isnt that deep in talent to afford this

We all know how this plays out. Alex starts year as starter. We lose and lose some more, fans chant Newton's name like crazy and Newton is starting by week 7.

Or if we draft Newton and free agency hasn't started Alex bolts and we get stuck with Cleo Lemon as our quarterback. Either way Newton is going to be starting very quickly for us.

Harbaugh would have some serious cojones to take a chance on this scenario. Could be a lose - lose scenario

Not just the wildcat IMO.

It all depends on the confidence the coaches show in him however you could install a bunch of different packages and plays for him from day 1, how often you call those plays or use him would vary.

One could install some short yardage, goal line and even some redzone packages to take advantage of his scrambling abilities and legs are definite possibilities. We have also seen a few NFL teams install the zone read into their offense and may call the play 1-2 times a game. In wildcat formations you can also line him out wide (mainly as a decoy). Not to mention any and all trick plays one can creatively come up for him.

Cam has unique athleticism and a creative offensive mind (we appear to have that now) can maximize the skill set he possesses while he would develop as the future QB of the franchise.

Cam has BUST written all over his forehead! I really hope we don't even consider getting him!

Plus his demeanor and intelligence level tells a lot about the kid. Even when doing interviews. I was playing close attention to him during yesterday's QB workouts and he was always playing with his shorts, talking to other guys, goofing off, etc. when the QB coach was giving the group instruction. Where is the focus or show of good character? The willingness to be the best, regardless of the fact that its only a drill.

Some of the throws he was making during the drills also leave A LOT to wonder. Floaters, in-accurate, late, etc. etc.

I think he could make an awesome TE.

I've got a really extreme view of Newton - he is the one QB who I hope we don't draft.

Ryan Leaf played with his shorts during pre draft workouts while Peyton Manning did not. Then again Matt Ryan had 2 & 1/2 tugs on his shorts during the 2008 combine but that wasn't enough to prove he was a habitual shorts player. Also studies show that 83% of stats are made up.

Has he taken the wonderlic yet. has his score for the wonderlic been leak out yet. I'm not sure how intelligence the guy is or is not. I really don't feel that picking him in the top 7 or maybe 10 would be a good move . but there really isn't much to tell us how smart he is or isn't.

Not sure if the wonderlic transfers to fb intelligence... look at AS, by all standards very intelligent but when he has the pads on he is just a click or two slow... you need to have some smarts to play QB but more importantly you have to be able to process information quickly and be decisive... not sure CN can do all this... check the front, the coverage, adjust to d rotations and stems, check protection, read key defenders, work a multiple progression... nice kid, awesome athlete, just not sure he has the mind for it.
