dude has alot of work to do. If I was a GM I would have him as a late 1st early 2nd round prospect.

The draft is not about how the player is playin' today. No one here thinks that Cam should be the starting QB from day 1 or 10 games into the season. Everyone knows that he is very raw as a passer, and needs a lot of work.

There are very few QBs who come in ready for the NFL from day 1.

Ben Roethlisberger compares very well to Cam imo, Cam is more athletic though. Ben went 13-0 as a rookie.

Many rookies have experienced success recently:

Flacco '08
Sanchez '09
Ryan '08

all had winning records. Plus Bradford has looked good. Stafford also when healthy.

3 of those QBs played had one of the top defense to help them win as many games as they did.

Ryan came in as a QB who was ready for the NFL and Bradford played surprisingly good, but it helps playing in NFC West. Stafford in his rookie year looked ok, but improved significantly in couple of years since.

But, you're right on with the Big Ben comparison.

They were talking about Cam's struggles and as they started to segway to a break. They started chatting amongst themselves, thinking they're mics were off. It couldve been a reference to something/someone else, but it was immediately after they were criticizing Newton.

Anyway, he too raw to warrant an early pick, IMO and it's unfortunate he overshadowed everyone else today. The NFL Network couldve done a better job following everyone, rather than having so much bias for Cam.

I heard it yes. Classic. I think sharpe said something to but i couldn't make it out.

Plenty of ppl have compared the two. Cam is more athletic, and Ben is a little better as a pocket passer. Remember, Big Ben throwing from the pocket is not very impressive. Very fair comparison.

I just watched about 10min of his highlights and everyone is the same play he either throws the ball to his #1 target or runs

Not one snap under center, no reading of the defense, no progression.

He’s a one dimensional option shoot quarterback. It would take him years to master Harbaugh’s offense.

If he’s drafted early by a crappy team and starts early he will most likely fail. His best chance is to get taken by a decent team latter, sit and learn.

Hmm...he made plenty of throws where he is just sitting back in the pocket and then makin' the pass to the open guy.

yeah when that one guy is open he stares down one guy then runs

I watched the wide field view many times another guy is open he just never looks at em

A couple of days ago Mayock was going over him and said about 10% of his passes were NFL scenario reads. That's roughly 30-40 plays.

I'm not against Cam I just think there's a bigger developmental period than most Cam fans want to admit. Big Ben, Freeman. 3 year starters. I think he compares to them alot more than he does Vince but it's not a patient league anymore and he might get thrown into fire alot quicker than he should.

that is my biggest knock on Cam, he is a project. It could pay off very well and I would be more inclined to do it if we were more secure at all other positions. That and possible character concerns.

I think he is 2 years away, but it's not like he can't contribute from day 1. He can contribute in wildcat right away.

do we really want to pay mega bucks for a guy to ride the bench AND expose him to injury by having him run the ball?

our team isnt that deep in talent to afford this

We all know how this plays out. Alex starts year as starter. We lose and lose some more, fans chant Newton's name like crazy and Newton is starting by week 7.

Or if we draft Newton and free agency hasn't started Alex bolts and we get stuck with Cleo Lemon as our quarterback. Either way Newton is going to be starting very quickly for us.

Harbaugh would have some serious cojones to take a chance on this scenario. Could be a lose - lose scenario
