Depends who you ask. I think Thomas is better but i'd be lying if i knew for sure.
Both guys play hard but I think Thomas has the better potential. However if we were to trade down I'd be ok with Barnett. i do think there is more bust potential with Barnett and a less boom potential...so to me it's clear but I've been wrong plenty of times.

Kyle said we're having 5 guys on the line so I'm all for mismatches and a guy who can play anything from a zero to 9 tech which he has in college .

If thomas isn't a clear upgrade at leo, I'd rather pass on him and address a different position with the first pick.

Thomas is better, and potential Justin Smith type of leader. Skills off the charts...
But I'm not sure I can stomach 3 d-linemen drafted in a row. Mehhhh

No doubt he's a good player, and if we draft him and put him at Leo, I hope he wrecks everyone in every game. I'm not on his bandwagon though, not because he isn't good, but because I hold out hope that AA can take a step this year. We have a huge need at Leo, and I think there are better guys to take for the Leo Spot. My preference is to trade down, try to get more first and/or second/third round picks. If we have to draft at 2 (and they decide not to go QB)....I'm still trying to figure out who to hang my hat on, but I have trouble making it SThomas.

We can get Thomas and trade up for a LEO for a 2nd and 4th round pick.

5 guys in base, which amounts to the smallest number of total snaps.
I think it's important we all remember that.

Buckner will be fine wherever, AA has to prove his worth.
It sucks when a mid first round pick from just two years ago has to do that but that's what happens when a new regime comes in, changes the system and that pick has very limited snaps to show them what he's got.
I'm hoping he turns into a stud and our coaches biggest challenge is how to get them all on the field together but we can't pass up on a guy who is perfect for our defense in the hopes that Baalke's guy works out.
I would not be surprised at all to see him traded during the draft.
Trade him for what exactly? Why would we trade a guy 2 yrs in who fits well at 2 of the 3 interior positions in our new scheme?
Almost every evaluation has Thomas as an outside player on base, yet people here keep overlapping him with AA and Buckner. Again, we are playing a 5-2 including the LEO.
That would mean Thomas- Buckner- Mitchell- AA- Lynch/Brooks on the front with Bowman, Smith and Tartt/Reid filling out the rest of the box.

He probably has even more value in nickel.

New regime, what the previous one did is pretty irrelevant if they feel Thomas is the best available player for them.

So you think going BPA isn't the way to go?
And yet...what need do we have outside of QB bigger than pass rusher?
Worst run D in the game last year, awful pass rush...you want to pass on a guy who is awesome vs the run and has great potential as a pass rusher because he's not a perfect fit at Leo?

That's where his value goes up for me.
I really could careless about base. It's sub package rushing where the game can change.

Lions made the smart move and drafted Calvin Johnson. That was their 4th WR in the top 10 in 5 years. And DL is way more important than WR today.
