He will need patience and coaching and must become a more effective pass rusher at some point.[b]

Someone else also believes he can set the edge in the run game too.
Defensive end in an odd front has nothing to do with setting an edge. That profile is aluding to a 5T role, not an edge player.

You've got a lot to learn.

Lol, it didn't say that. Take what you want from it. But ill be the one saying I told you so when we draft Thomas and start aa at de.

Imagine 300lbs 6'8" Buckner or Armstead having to play the mesh point on a zone read. Talk about an inevitable disaster. I'd leave the backside of the formation empty so that the QB would have green grass for days after he beats one of these loafing giants around the corner.

Do you think they both can play inside on pass downs?

Yes, that's what my original point was. I'd keep Thomas on the edge since he's more athletic and fleeter athlete.

OR trade AA and have true edge players next to Thomas/Buckner.

That's what I'm hoping for. On pass downs Thomas slides to LE and we get even more speed at RE.

I'd look to try an trade AA but if not he's not costing us much and on the team for two yrs...maybe he carves a role out on the team in a rotation/package. I'd like a true speed rusher on the outside, if Eli can getting back to his natural weight I could see him there until we upgrade it.

In the draft I'd love Harris/Williams/Takk/Willis/rivers

Everyone is too hung up over AA in this whole discussion. Worst case scenario is first man up off the bench at both 5T and 3T while playing a lot of snaps in Nickel. On the flip side he starts at 3T or 5T and we place our 11 best on the field.

Why trade him now for minimal return?

I mean I'm cool keeping him or trading him...it's not like the old days where they got huge rookie contracts.
Trade down.

Draft RB- Christian McCaffery in round 1
Trade up for OLB- Tak McKinley in round 1
Grab DT- Caleb Brantley in round 2
Grab TE - Adam Shaheen on round 3
Grab OLB- Elijah Lee in round 4
Grab QB- Jerod Evans in round 4

Call it a day

What do you think about taking a WR with our third NY? Or trade up with it if you can move 6ths/7ths?
This film is all we need to see to demonstrate where Thomas would play:

I don't think there is one spot across the line he didn't play including over the Nose, 3T, 5T, 6 or 7T, and even out in wide 9. There are several clips of him rushing from the outside and he looks pretty good to me from there overall. Shows good initial burst after the snap, bull rushes well, up and under move, speed rush, etc. Pretty darn good for someone who has mostly been inside. I don't think there's any question he's our guy unless we get some sucker team to trade up with us.
